Morgan State’s Cameron Edge Earns MEAC Offensive Player of the Week After Towson Victory

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference named Morgan State Bears senior quarterback Cameron Edge its Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 21 following his performance in a 41-26 victory over the Towson Tigers. Edge completed 14 of 23 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns in the Sept. 19 matchup at Johnny Unitas Stadium. He finished without an interception as the Bears secured a breakthrough win in the Battle for Greater Baltimore.
Morgan State defeated Towson for the first time since 2009 and improved to 3-1 for the first time since that same season. The Bears also scored their most points against the Tigers since the series began in 1979. Edge became Morgan State’s first MEAC Player of the Week honoree this season, adding individual recognition to a significant victory for the program.
Edge helped Morgan State recover from an early setback after Towson forced and recovered a fumble on the Bears’ opening possession. He answered with a six-yard touchdown pass to Marquez Spells that put Morgan State ahead 7-3 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Edge connected with Joseph Towler for a 40-yard touchdown, extending the advantage to 21-3. The Bears carried a 24-6 lead into halftime in front of 10,900 fans, the largest regular-season crowd in Towson football history.
Morgan State finished with 369 yards of offense and converted six of its 10 third-down opportunities. Edge contributed another important completion to open the fourth quarter, finding Justin Perry for 36 yards on third-and-five. That drive ended with Dante Archie throwing a 37-yard touchdown pass to Perry, pushing the Bears’ lead to 31-13. Morgan State scored 17 fourth-quarter points to keep Towson from completing its comeback.
Through his first four games, Edge completed 50 of 76 passes for 712 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception. Those numbers translate to a 65.8% completion rate and seven touchdown passes for every interception. At the time of the award announcement, his average of 178 passing yards per game ranked second in the MEAC. His performance against Towson continued a productive opening stretch in his first season with the Bears.
Edge’s path to Morgan State included an earlier stop with the Maryland Terrapins. The Clayton, Delaware, native spent the 2022 through 2024 seasons at Maryland, appearing in four games and throwing a touchdown pass in the Music City Bowl following the 2023 season. He then spent 2025 at Eastern Michigan, where he did not appear in a game. Morgan State has given the former Smyrna High School standout an opportunity to take on a much larger role.
The Bears also received broader recognition following the rivalry victory, climbing five spots to No. 5 in the Sept. 21 Black College Football Division I FCS Poll. Morgan State collected 210 points in that edition of the poll. The ranking added another accomplishment to a week highlighted by the Towson win and Edge’s conference award.
Morgan State returns to action Oct. 3 against the Villanova Wildcats. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Villanova Stadium. The Bears then return home to face Robert Morris on Oct. 10 for homecoming, giving Edge and the offense two more opportunities to build on their September results.
MSB Take: Edge earned this recognition by delivering scoring plays in a game that carried real importance for Morgan State. His response after the opening fumble and his third-down completion early in the fourth quarter stand out because both helped the Bears move forward at critical moments. For MSB, the encouraging sign is his ability to combine touchdown production with a low interception total through four games. Sustaining that efficiency would give Morgan State a strong foundation as the season moves toward conference play.
