McDermott, Hoffman, and Ort Combine for a No-Hitter

The AAA Norfolk Tides pitched their first no-hitter in their Orioles affiliate history on May 3rd versus the Nashville Sounds. They ended up beating the Sounds 2-0 to win their seventh game in a row and get their record (16-15) above .500. 

Chayce McDermott started the game, getting through six perfect innings. He was removed after walking two, but not before pitching 11 strikeouts and making it through 6 ⅔ innings total. He threw 96 pitches, 61 of which were strikes, and brought his ERA to 2.89. McDermott received the win and currently has a record of 1-1. 

Reliever Nolan Hoffman came in for McDermott in the 6th inning, throwing 1.1 innings. He struck out two and was able to receive the hold for the game, also bringing his record to 1-1. Lastly, Kaleb Ort came in to finish off the game, sustaining the no-hitter after pitching one inning. 

On the offensive side, Daniel Johnson hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Coby Mayo to score, while Jackson Holliday hit a double, scoring the Tides’ other run. Michael Pérez, Connor Norby, Kyle Stowers, and Shayne Fontana also all got hits on the Tides’ side. 

The Tides play tonight, May 4th, at 7:35 EST against the Sounds. They are looking for their eighth win in a row, which would bring them to two games above .500.
