Keys Start off July Right

The Frederick Keys are trying to start of the month of July with a series win over the Salem Red Sox after a disappointing end in June. The Keys began the month of June by achieving an 8-5 record, but in the last two weeks finished up by losing ten of their final 13 games.

The Keys also finished the first half of the season with a 32-35 record, which was last place in the Northern Carolina League. With the second half underway the Keys will try to recover from a 4-9 record which puts them at the bottom of the Carolina league. If they want to reach the playoffs they will need to have the best record in the North league or second best if the Potomac Nationals earn a second half win.

However, the month of July looks promising for the Keys if they can get on the right track and have a similar start like last month. This might prove difficult for the Keys due to the fact that they play the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and the Potomac Nationals, who each achieved the best record in the North and South Leagues in the first half of the season.

Last night the Keys beat the Salem Red Sox after only 4.5 innings due to the field being deemed unplayable giving them the first win of the series. Keys pitcher, Parker Bridwell(4-6), will take the mound against the struggling Cody Kukuk(1-6). Bridwell has only given up four earned runs in his last 25 innings pitched while Kukuk has surrendered ten runs in his last two starts alone. Bridwell gives the Keys the advantage because of his ability to go deeper into games than Kukuk, who has not pitched more than 3.2 innings in over a month. Tonight should be a great night for the Keys and hopefully give them a positive July record and series win over the Red Sox.
