Jones continues to struggle for the Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles are now a month into the 2014 season and Adam Jones continues to struggle. Jones has been a rock for the Orioles offensively and defensively but this season his bat has yet to awaken. Which the Orioles need from the player that has the richest contract in franchise history.
Jones still only has one home run and is hitting only .252, not good. Historically, Jones hits .280 or higher and about 25 to 30 home runs. Right now Jones looks completely lost at the plate. Jones has always struggled with swinging at pitches out of the strike zone. Right now it looks like pitchers are really taking advantage of it.
Usually when Jones gets locked in he hits to all fields and he has yet to do that. Something seems off, maybe having a newborn baby at home is effecting his sleep.
I think Buck Showalter needs to drop Jones in the lineup. Jones is batting cleanup and not putting up the numbers. Jones’ bat will come around but the Orioles need to do something in the meantime. Having Jones bat lower in the order will not hurt the Orioles as Matt Wieters has been scorching the ball. Nelson Cruz seems locked into the third spot in the lineup and even though he is putting up the best power numbers for the Orioles, I would keep him there.
