Jolie Farmer Powers Maryland Women’s Soccer Past Fairleigh Dickinson, 2-1

Maryland women’s soccer continued its strong start to the 2026 season Thursday night, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson 2-1 at Ludwig Field behind a two-goal performance from Jolie Farmer.

Farmer scored just 83 seconds into the match and added another goal in the second half as Maryland improved to 2-0 for the second consecutive season.

The redshirt sophomore has quickly emerged as the centerpiece of the Terrapins attack. Farmer has scored all three of Maryland’s goals through the first two matches of the season.

Farmer Strikes Almost Immediately

Maryland wasted little time putting pressure on Fairleigh Dickinson.

Farmer scored on the Terrapins’ first shot of the match just 1:23 after kickoff, giving Maryland a 1-0 advantage.

It was Maryland’s earliest goal in a match since Kelsey Smith scored 77 seconds into a game against Stony Brook in August 2024.

The early goal allowed Maryland to establish control and play from in front for nearly the entire evening.

The Terrapins continued generating chances throughout the opening half. Mckinley Heaven and Lilly Bane both forced saves as Maryland maintained pressure around the FDU penalty area.

Maryland also earned multiple corner kicks while preventing Fairleigh Dickinson from generating much dangerous offense.

FDU did not record a shot on goal during the first half.

Maryland carried its 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Maryland Keeps Applying Pressure

The Terrapins continued attacking after the break.

Maryland earned two corner kicks during the opening 10 minutes of the second half before Fairleigh Dickinson goalkeeper Ana Leblanc made another save on Abigail Stager in the 62nd minute.

Leblanc had a busy night against the Maryland attack and finished with 13 saves.

The Terrapins eventually broke through for a second time.

Farmer scored again in the 67th minute following a scramble in front of the goal, doubling Maryland’s advantage to 2-0.

It was the first multi-goal game of Farmer’s collegiate career and gave her three goals through Maryland’s first two matches.

Farmer finished the game with six shots, all six of which were on goal.

FDU Makes It Interesting Late

Fairleigh Dickinson refused to go away.

Freshman Amina Brown scored in the 73rd minute to cut Maryland’s lead to 2-1. It was Brown’s first collegiate goal.

The score gave the Knights some late momentum and forced Maryland to defend a one-goal advantage over the final 17 minutes.

The Terrapins handled the challenge.

Maryland continued creating chances and forced another FDU save in the 76th minute before protecting the lead through the final whistle.

The victory improved Maryland to 2-0 all-time against Fairleigh Dickinson.

Goalkeepers Split Time

Meredith Fisher started in goal for Maryland and kept FDU scoreless during her 60 minutes of action.

Faith Luckey then made her season debut and finished the match.

Maryland’s defense limited Fairleigh Dickinson to eight total shots and only three shots on goal.

That defensive performance complemented a Maryland attack that controlled much of the evening.

Maryland Dominates the Numbers

The final score was close, but Maryland controlled most of the statistical categories.

The Terrapins outshot Fairleigh Dickinson 18-8 and placed 15 shots on goal compared with only three for the Knights.

Maryland also held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

FDU goalkeeper Leblanc was forced to make 13 saves because of Maryland’s consistent pressure.

Farmer led the attack with six shots and six shots on goal. Heaven added three shots, including two on target, while Bane recorded three shots and put all three on goal.

Maryland committed only five fouls compared with 11 for Fairleigh Dickinson.

Farmer Making History

Farmer’s start to the season has been one of the biggest stories for Maryland.

She scored Maryland’s lone goal in the season-opening 1-0 victory over Fordham and followed that performance with two more goals against Fairleigh Dickinson.

That means Farmer has scored each of Maryland’s first three goals of the season.

She became the first Maryland women’s soccer player since Alex Anthony in 2015 to score the team’s first three goals of a season.

Farmer’s production has been especially important for a Maryland team looking to continue making progress under head coach Michael Marchiano.

Through two games, she has provided exactly what Maryland needs from a forward: pressure, shot creation and finishing.

Strong Start Continues at Ludwig Field

The victory improved Maryland to 8-4-1 at Ludwig Field since the beginning of the 2025 season.

The Terrapins are also unbeaten through their first two matches for the third consecutive season.

Maryland opened the year with a 1-0 victory over Fordham before defeating Fairleigh Dickinson, giving the Terps consecutive victories to begin the season for the second straight year.

The early results are encouraging, particularly because Maryland has shown it can win in different ways.

Against Fordham, the Terrapins protected a one-goal lead in a defensive battle.

Against FDU, Maryland generated significantly more attacking opportunities and finished with 18 shots.

Jolie Farmer could not have asked for a much better start to the 2026 season.

Three Maryland goals have been scored this year, and Farmer has all three of them.

Her ability to strike immediately against FDU changed the entire complexion of Thursday night’s match. Maryland never had to chase the game and was able to dictate play for long stretches.

The most encouraging number might be the 15 shots on goal.

Maryland did not simply possess the ball without creating opportunities. The Terrapins consistently tested the goalkeeper and produced chances from multiple players.

Farmer is clearly the early headline, but Heaven, Bane, Stager and others also helped Maryland maintain pressure throughout the night.

There are still areas to clean up. Allowing FDU to cut a 2-0 advantage in half created more late-game pressure than Maryland would have wanted.

Still, a 2-0 start is exactly what Marchiano and the Terrapins were looking for.

Maryland has an emerging scoring threat in Farmer, a defense that has allowed only one goal through two matches and a team that appears increasingly comfortable creating chances.

The Terrapins have given themselves an encouraging foundation for the rest of the season.
