Howard Community College men’s soccer rallied from an early deficit to defeat Hagerstown Community College 8-1 on Sept. 22 in Columbia, Maryland. Yeabsira Tesfaye scored three goals for the No. 11 Howard Community College Dragons, who improved to 6-1-1 overall and 5-1 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference play.
Hagerstown Community College took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when Josh Candia scored. Howard then scored eight unanswered goals in a match affected by heavy winds and pouring rain.
Howard Community College Men’s Soccer Overcomes Early Deficit
Angel Giron-Ramos tied the match in the 26th minute on a goal assisted by Nelson Hernandez. Tesfaye followed with goals in the 30th and 34th minutes, with Hernandez assisting on the second, to put the Dragons ahead 3-1.
Hernandez added a goal in the 43rd minute, giving Howard a 4-1 lead at halftime. Jackson Costell was credited with an assist on the goal.
Daniel Barrett scored his first goal as a Dragon in the 48th minute. Tesfaye completed his hat trick in the 54th minute, Biruk Yitayew scored in the 60th minute, and Carson Feeser finished the scoring in the 73rd minute against his former team.
Six different Howard Community College players scored in the victory. The Dragons recorded four goals in each half.

Howard out-shot Hagerstown 33-8 and held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Dragons also led 17-3 in shots on goal.

Giron-Ramos contributed one goal, two assists, and two shots on goal. Yitayew and Nicholas Mirecki each recorded three shots, while Julian Gugino made two saves for the Dragons.

Howard is scheduled to play Frederick Community College on Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. The Dragons will enter that matchup with a 6-1-1 overall record and a 5-1 conference mark.
