The Goucher College women’s volleyball team defeated Cheyney University 3-1 on Sept. 26, 2026, in Baltimore, Maryland, as Athena Savick recorded her 1,000th career dig. Goucher won the opening match of its home tri-match by set scores of 25-7, 22-25, 25-14 and 25-13.
Savick finished with 11 digs and reached the career milestone during the victory. Caroline Carter led Goucher with 16 kills, while AaShyah De Vries and Juliana Stoneberg each recorded six kills.
Goucher College Women’s Volleyball Team Wins Three Sets
Goucher controlled the opening set, winning 25-7, before Cheyney answered with a 25-22 victory in the second set. Goucher responded by taking the third set 25-14 and the fourth set 25-13 to secure the match.
Goucher posted a .169 hitting percentage, compared with .062 for Cheyney. Goucher also finished with 15 service aces, four blocks and 43 digs, while Cheyney recorded one ace, five blocks and 52 digs.
Caroline Carter Leads Goucher Offensively
Carter paced the Goucher offense with 16 kills. De Vries and Stoneberg followed with six kills apiece, while De Vries added two blocks.
Sofia Ortiz recorded a team-high 14 assists, and Grace Prusmack contributed 12 assists. Makayla Nasibi recorded three service aces for Goucher, while Savick’s 11 digs accompanied her milestone performance.
Goucher College Women’s Volleyball Team Scheduled to Face Gwynedd Mercy
Goucher was scheduled to play Gwynedd Mercy in the second match of the home tri-match at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. The match was scheduled to follow the victory over Cheyney University.
