The Goucher College field hockey team lost to the University of Scranton Royals, 6-1, on Oct. 3 in Baltimore, Md. Madison Usher scored Goucher College’s only goal at 25:35 of the second quarter, with Laureen Otieno providing the assist.
Goucher College entered the game with a 4-6 overall record and a 0-2 conference record. The University of Scranton Royals entered at 8-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
University of Scranton Builds First-Half Lead
Maggie Keys scored twice in the first quarter as the Royals took a 2-0 lead. Anna Capelli added a goal at 19:58 of the second quarter before Usher answered for Goucher College.
Otieno led the Goucher College field hockey team with three shots. The Royals carried a 3-1 lead into halftime.
Royals Add Three Second-Half Goals
Olivia Dougherty scored in the third quarter to give the University of Scranton a 4-1 advantage. Maddie Slavin and Gracie Buchholz added fourth-quarter goals to complete the 6-1 final score.
Katie Bloom played all 60 minutes in goal for Goucher College and recorded 21 saves. University of Scranton goalkeeper Ruby Sorber made two saves.
The University of Scranton led 42-9 in shots, 27-3 in shots on goal, and 19-4 in penalty corners.
Goucher College Field Hockey Schedule
Goucher College is scheduled to play Catholic on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. The team is scheduled to return to Beldon Field on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m., for its Morgan’s Message and Pink Out game.
