Frostburg State University Women’s Volleyball lost 3-1 to Charleston (WV) in a road match Oct. 9, 2026, in Charleston, W. Va. The Bobcats won the opening set 26-24 before the Golden Eagles claimed the next three sets, 25-20, 29-27 and 25-20.
Grace Yocham led all scorers with 12 kills for Frostburg State. Maya Johnson recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs, while Miranda Ball posted a career-high 29 digs and tied her personal best with three aces.
Frostburg State University Women’s Volleyball Wins Opening Set
Charleston scored the first two points, but Frostburg State responded with kills from Yocham and Judy Steffens and an ace from Ball to take a 6-3 lead. The Bobcats stayed in front late in the set as Raegan Philips and Johnson recorded kills during a 24-20 advantage.
The Golden Eagles fought back to tie the score at 24-24, but Kayla Greene found the floor before a Charleston attack went into the net. Frostburg State secured the 26-24 victory and took a 1-0 match lead.
Frostburg State also opened the second set well, building a 7-3 lead after three Yocham kills, another Ball ace and a point from Steffens. Charleston answered with six consecutive points to take a 12-10 advantage and scored the final five points for a 25-20 win.
Charleston (WV) Takes Control in Final Three Sets
The teams exchanged leads throughout the third set. Johnson and Philips helped Frostburg State tie the score at 17-17, and the pair later combined for a block that gave the Bobcats a 21-19 lead.
Gabrielle Morris recorded two points during the late stretch, but Charleston reached set point at 24-23. Frostburg State stayed alive and moved ahead 27-26 after a Charleston attack error, a Rhea Shetty ace, a Greene kill and a Johnson block. The Golden Eagles then recorded three consecutive kills to win the set 29-27.
Frostburg State took a 5-2 lead in the fourth set after a Morris block, two Steffens kills and another Ball ace. Charleston responded with a 6-1 run, and Kylie Appleton’s ace helped the Bobcats tie the score at 8-8.
The Golden Eagles then scored six straight points and nine of the next 10 to build a 17-9 advantage. Morris added a solo block and a kill, while Yocham, Greene and Johnson recorded kills during Frostburg State’s comeback attempt. Charleston held on for a 25-20 win and completed the 3-1 match victory.
Frostburg State University Women’s Volleyball Record and Next Match
Frostburg State fell to 5-12 overall and 2-5 in Mountain East Conference play. Charleston improved to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Frostburg State was scheduled to remain on the road against West Virginia State on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. The Bobcats recorded a .112 hitting percentage in the match, while Charleston hit .160.
