Coppin State University women’s volleyball defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-23) on Oct. 9 at PEC Arena. Deviana Walker led all players with 13 kills as Coppin State extended its program-record winning streak to 13 consecutive matches.
The victory improved Coppin State to 14-5 overall and 5-0 in the MEAC. The Eagles hit .294 as a team and held Maryland Eastern Shore to a .123 hitting percentage.
Deviana Walker Leads Coppin State University Women’s Volleyball
Walker hit .333 on 27 swings, committing four errors, and added one block and two digs. Cherisse Atilano, Ivanna Luna and Kendall Minta each recorded eight kills, while Minta contributed a team-high four blocks.
Atilano added five digs, one ace and one block. Eva Rovello recorded 36 assists, five digs, four aces, four kills and two blocks, while Coco Figueroa led Coppin State with nine digs and one ace.
Rori Gray recorded four kills on four swings and one solo block in her lone set. McKenzie Parks added three kills and two blocks.
Coppin State University Women’s Volleyball Closes Out the Sweep
Coppin State turned an early deficit into an 18-16 advantage with a 5-0 run in the opening set. Back-to-back aces from Rovello tied the score at 16, and Walker followed with a kill for the Eagles’ first lead before Coppin State closed the set with four consecutive points.
The Eagles led from start to finish in the second set after opening with a 3-0 run. Maryland Eastern Shore pulled within 10-8, but Coppin State answered with four straight points that included two Walker kills and a block before winning 25-14.
Maryland Eastern Shore rallied from small deficits in the third set and took a 17-13 lead. Coppin State regained the advantage at 20-19 on Rovello’s fourth ace, and after the Hawks tied the score at 20, Gray recorded two straight kills and a block to extend the Eagles’ lead to 23-20, a 3-0 run.
Gray added another kill after Maryland Eastern Shore scored two straight points. Minta and Atilano then combined for a block to complete the sweep.

Coppin State is scheduled to play at Delaware State in a 1 p.m. MEAC match Sunday, Oct. 11. The match is scheduled to air on the MEAC Network.
