The Fredericksburg Nationals were swept by the Fayetteville Woodpeckers in an Aug. 12, 2026, doubleheader in Fayetteville, N.C., losing 5-4 in Game 1 and 4-0 in Game 2. Hunter Hines hit a two-out, three-run home run in the opener, but Fayetteville rallied to tie the game before winning on a walk-off single.
Fayetteville rallies for Game 1 victory
Game 1 resumed with the Fredericksburg Nationals leading 1-0 after Hunter Hines hit an RBI single before the game was suspended. Fayetteville tied the game in the bottom of the third inning when Arturo Flores reached on a leadoff single, advanced to third as the Woodpeckers loaded the bases with no outs, and scored on Kevin Alvarez’s double play.
The Fredericksburg Nationals regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning when, with two outs, Hines launched a three-run home run into right-center field to give the team a 4-1 advantage. The homer was Hines’ 10th in Single-A during the year.
Fayetteville scored on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth and then added two runs in the eighth, including an unearned run that tied the game at 4-4. Waner Luciano ended the game in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off single, giving the Woodpeckers a 5-4 victory.
Juan Fraide, Fayetteville Woodpeckers shut out Fredericksburg
The Fredericksburg Nationals could not generate enough offense in Game 2. Fayetteville Woodpeckers starter Juan Fraide held a no-hitter into the fourth inning and allowed two singles through his first five innings.
Fredericksburg right-handed pitcher Marlon De La Cruz struck out a season-best seven batters and walked one, a season low. He allowed a solo home run in the second inning and three runs in the fourth as the Woodpeckers completed the 4-0 shutout.
The two losses dropped the Fredericksburg Nationals to two games below .500 in the second half. The team was scheduled to face the Woodpeckers again the following day at Segra Stadium, with right-handed pitcher Alexander Meckley set to start against right-hander Ryan Verdugo. First pitch was scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
