The Fredericksburg Nationals rallied from a 6-1 deficit to tie the game against the Delmarva Shorebirds but fell short when Carlos Sanchez hit a go-ahead RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning during a 7-6 loss Aug. 29, 2026, in Salisbury, Maryland. Fredericksburg went down 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth inning. The defeat marked the Nationals’ second straight loss to Delmarva and the first time that season Fredericksburg dropped two games in a series against the Shorebirds.
Fredericksburg Nationals Erase Five-Run Deficit
Delmarva Shorebirds starter Collin McKinney struck out the side to open the game. Fredericksburg Nationals starter Marlon Del la Cruz escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first inning, but Delmarva took a 2-0 lead after the second inning and expanded to 3-0 following the fourth. The Shorebirds held a 4-1 advantage after the fifth inning and added two more runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 6-1.
Stiven Martinez reached on an infield single in the second inning, when Rafael Ramirez committed a throwing error on a play at third base. Martinez also added an RBI single in the fourth inning to extend Delmarva’s lead. Coy James hit an RBI single in the fifth inning to put Fredericksburg on the board.
The Nationals scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game. Cristhian Vaquero drew a bases-loaded walk, Juan Cruz followed with an RBI single, and Hunter Hines hit a two-RBI single to cut Delmarva’s lead to 6-5. Ramirez then doubled to bring Cruz home and even the score at 6-6.
Delmarva Shorebirds Win in the Eighth
Carlos Sanchez hit an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Delmarva Shorebirds a 7-6 lead. Fredericksburg could not answer in the ninth, going down in order as Delmarva secured the victory.
The Fredericksburg Nationals will attempt to win the series the next day at 2:05 p.m. at Perdue Stadium. Their starting pitcher was yet to be determined, while KK Clark was scheduled to start for Delmarva.
