Minor League Baseball announced Aug. 10 that Fredericksburg Nationals infielder Coy James was named Carolina League Player of the Week for Week 19, covering Aug. 4-9, 2026. James went 9-for-23 during Fredericksburg’s 5-1 series win over Delmarva and posted a .391/.500/.913 slash line with a 1.413 OPS.
James played in every game of the series and recorded five extra-base hits, including one triple and three home runs. He also drew five walks and struck out three times.
Coy James Produces During First Full Professional Season
James is in his first full professional season and was one of three players to spend the season to date on the Fredericksburg Nationals active roster. He was drafted by the Nationals in the fifth round of the 2025 MLB Draft out of Davie County High School in North Carolina.
James was named Gatorade Player of the Year in North Carolina for spring 2025. His Week 19 performance earned him Carolina League recognition during his first full season as a professional.
Fourth Fredericksburg Nationals Weekly Award Winner
James became the fourth Fredericksburg Nationals player to win a Carolina League weekly award. The previous winners were Yeremy Cabrera, who won twice, Gavin Fien and Carson Fischer.
The Fredericksburg Nationals were scheduled to play at Fayetteville the following week. The Tuesday opener was scheduled for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
