The Fredericksburg Nationals fell 4-2 to the Delmarva Shorebirds on Aug. 28, 2026, at Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md. The Shorebirds scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to hand the Nationals their first loss of the series and their 50th loss of the year. The Nationals remained 23 games above .500.
Delmarva Ends 25-Inning Scoreless Streak
The Delmarva Shorebirds ended a streak of 25 scoreless innings in the bottom of the first inning. Jhomnardo Reyes drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a throwing error by Nationals pitcher Landon Harmon, and scored on Carlos Sanchez’s sacrifice fly. This run gave Delmarva a 1-0 lead.
Landon Harmon pitched four innings for the Nationals, allowing one hit, four walks, and one run while striking out four batters. Harmon, a third-round pick and the 11th-ranked prospect in Washington’s system, struck out the final two batters he faced with a runner in scoring position.
Fredericksburg Takes Fifth-Inning Lead
The Nationals moved ahead in the top of the fifth inning. Jamison Jones drew a leadoff walk and scored on Avery Ortiz’s RBI double. Ortiz later scored on Manny Cabrera’s sacrifice fly, giving Fredericksburg a 2-1 lead.
The Shorebirds tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the eighth, reliever Boucher allowed a leadoff single and a walk. Zach Konstantinovsky then allowed both inherited runners to score, giving Delmarva a 4-2 lead.
Nationals Strand Tying Runners
The Nationals put the tying runner on base in the ninth inning but stranded runners at first and second. The Nationals are scheduled to play for the series win the following day at Perdue Stadium. Right-hander Marlon De La Cruz is set to start against Delmarva right-hander Collin McKinney, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
