The Fredericksburg Nationals defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds 5-3 on Aug. 7, 2026, at Virginia Credit Union Stadium in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Xander Meckley led Fredericksburg with 7.1 innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs and two walks while striking out eight.
The victory guaranteed the Fredericksburg Nationals at least a split in the series. Fredericksburg also won three of the first four games of a series for the first time since the first week of July.
Fredericksburg Nationals Respond After Delmarva’s Early Lead
Both offenses put runners in scoring position during the first two innings but did not score. Delmarva Shorebirds leadoff hitter Jaden Lo Re opened the third inning with a double, moved to third on a groundout and scored on another groundout to give Delmarva a 1-0 lead.
The Fredericksburg Nationals responded in the bottom of the third inning. Manny Cabrera reached on a one-out single before Coy James hit a two-run home run, his 17th of the season, to tie the Fredericksburg Nationals’ single-season home run record.
Fredericksburg added two more runs in the third inning. Juan Cruz doubled, and Elian Soto followed with his first Single-A triple before scoring on a Dashyll Tejeda RBI single to put the Nationals ahead 4-1.
Xander Meckley Controls the Middle Innings
Meckley retired 15 consecutive batters after allowing Lo Re’s leadoff double in the third inning. He recorded 1-2-3 innings in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
Meckley became the first Fredericksburg Nationals pitcher to go into the eighth inning in 2026. He finished with 7.1 innings pitched, three hits allowed, two earned runs, two walks and eight strikeouts.
Jordan Williams Adds Insurance Runs
Jordan Williams hit his seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning. The home run extended Fredericksburg’s lead to 5-1.
The Fredericksburg Nationals held on for the 5-3 victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds and secured at least a split in the series.

The Fredericksburg Nationals will seek the series win in the next game. DJ Herz is scheduled to start against Delmarva right-handed pitcher Harrison Kreiling, with first pitch at 7:35 p.m. at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.
