Frederick Keys Win 5-4 in 10 Innings Over Bowling Green Hot Rods

The Frederick Keys won 5-4 in 10 innings over the Bowling Green Hot Rods after Yasmil Bucce drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Randal Diaz in the bottom of the 10th inning Thursday night at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. The walk gave Frederick a 2-1 series lead after three games in the six-game series.

Bowling Green Takes Early Lead

The Bowling Green Hot Rods scored first in the top of the first inning when Nathan Flewelling hit a two-run home run, putting the visitors ahead 2-0. Braylin Tavera responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning. Tavera’s 13th home run of the season cut the deficit to 2-1.

Frederick starting pitcher Evan Yates then tossed a third consecutive scoreless inning in the top of the fourth, while Michael Caldon escaped a sixth-inning jam with a strikeout.

Frederick Forces Extra Innings

Jordan Sanchez brought home Frederick’s second run with an RBI fielder’s choice groundout in the seventh inning, tying the game at 2-2. Cohen Achen worked a scoreless top of the ninth inning in relief, but the Keys were unable to score in the bottom half.

The game moved to extra innings tied at 2-2. Bowling Green regained the lead in the top of the 10th on an RBI double, and a Frederick error added another run to give the Hot Rods a 4-2 advantage.

Diaz and Bucce Deliver Walk-Off Win

Randal Diaz started the Keys’ comeback with a two-RBI double in the bottom of the 10th inning, tying the game at 4-4. Three batters later, Bucce, on his birthday, drew a bases-loaded walk to score Diaz and complete the 5-4 victory.

The win gave the Frederick Keys their second victory in the first three games of the series.
