Detroit Tigers Crush Baltimore Orioles 14-0 as Everything Goes Wrong in Detroit
The Detroit Tigers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 14-0 on Tuesday night at Comerica Park, handing Baltimore one of its most lopsided losses of the 2026 season. Detroit scored in every inning it came to the plate, collecting 19 hits while completely shutting down the Orioles’ offense in a game that quickly got out of hand.
Baltimore never found an answer for Tigers rookie right-hander Troy Melton, who dominated the Orioles lineup from the opening inning. Melton worked deep into the game, allowing only a handful of hits while keeping Baltimore off the scoreboard and preventing any serious scoring threats. The Orioles failed to record an at-bat with a runner in scoring position, highlighting just how overpowering Detroit’s pitching performance was.
The Tigers wasted little time putting pressure on Orioles starter Dean Kremer. Detroit jumped ahead early before breaking the game open with multiple crooked numbers in the middle innings. Kremer lasted only four innings, surrendering eight earned runs as his difficult stretch continued. Baltimore’s bullpen could not stop the momentum, with Albert Suárez and Josh Walker also allowing runs before catcher Chadwick Tromp was forced to pitch the eighth inning in an effort to preserve the bullpen.
Detroit’s offense received contributions throughout the lineup, but Gleyber Torres led the charge. Torres finished with a home run and five RBIs, delivering several key extra-base hits that helped bury Baltimore early. Rookie catcher Eduardo Valencia enjoyed the best game of his young Major League career, blasting two home runs, collecting four hits and driving in four runs. According to MLB, Valencia became just the sixth player since 1900 to record a four-hit, two-home run game within his first seven career games.
The Tigers also welcomed back Javier Báez, who returned from the injured list and immediately made an impact with three hits. Colt Keith chipped in with a run-scoring triple, while Kevin McGonigle, Spencer Torkelson and Ben Malgeri all contributed RBIs as Detroit’s lineup produced offense from top to bottom.
For Baltimore, there were very few positives. Jackson Holliday accounted for multiple hits and continued to swing the bat well, but the Orioles managed only a few singles the entire evening and never mounted a legitimate rally. Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman and the rest of Baltimore’s lineup were held in check throughout the night by Melton and the Tigers’ pitching staff.
The defeat was especially frustrating considering the Orioles had won the series opener 8-5 just one night earlier. Instead of building momentum, Baltimore suffered one of its most one-sided defeats of the year, raising fresh questions about the starting rotation behind Trevor Rogers and Brandon Young. Kremer’s recent struggles have become increasingly concerning as the Orioles try to remain competitive heading into the final months of the season.
Detroit’s 14-run outburst also made history. The Tigers scored in every inning they batted, becoming only the second Major League team since 1900 to score in every offensive inning while pitching a shutout in the same game. It was a complete performance on both sides of the ball and exactly the response Detroit needed after dropping the opener of the series.
The Orioles will now look to quickly put Tuesday night’s disaster behind them in the series finale. A bounce-back performance will be critical as Baltimore attempts to avoid leaving Detroit with the memory of one of its toughest losses of the 2026 campaign.
