Delmarva Shorebirds Weekly Recap (May 30 – June 5)

The Delmarva Shorebirds endured another challenging week but finished strong, winning back-to-back games against the Augusta GreenJackets to build some momentum heading into the weekend. Delmarva went 2-4 during the week, closing with consecutive victories after a difficult series against the first-place Fredericksburg Nationals.

May 30: Fredericksburg 9, Delmarva 6
The Shorebirds battled offensively but could not overcome early pitching struggles. Fredericksburg collected enough timely hits to secure the victory and clinch the series. Delmarva showed fight late but never fully erased the deficit.
May 31: Fredericksburg 6, Delmarva 2
Jose Perez provided the offensive highlight with a two-run triple, but the Shorebirds managed only a few scoring opportunities the rest of the afternoon. Christian Rodriguez worked into the sixth inning but surrendered six runs as Fredericksburg completed another series win.
June 1: Off Day
After a rough week against one of the Carolina League’s best teams, Delmarva headed south to begin a road series against Augusta.
June 2-3: Augusta Series Opens
The Shorebirds split the first two games of the series, showing improved pitching and defense compared to the Fredericksburg matchup. Delmarva’s young roster began to settle in and play cleaner baseball.
June 4: Delmarva 4, Augusta 2
One of Delmarva’s best wins of the week.
Edwin Amparo blasted a two-run homer in the ninth inning to break a tie and give the Shorebirds a dramatic victory. Esteban Mejia and Kailen Hamson combined for a strong effort on the mound as Delmarva secured its second straight win.
June 5: Delmarva 4, Augusta 2
The Shorebirds followed up Thursday’s win with another impressive performance.
Again, Edwin Amparo delivered the biggest hit of the night, helping Delmarva claim consecutive victories and take the series lead over the GreenJackets. The pitching staff continued its strong stretch after struggling during the Fredericksburg series.
