The Delmarva Shorebirds lost 5-3 to the Fredericksburg Nationals on Friday in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Jordan Sanchez delivered three RBIs for the second consecutive game, but Delmarva could not overcome Fredericksburg’s four-run fourth inning.
Early Lead for Shorebirds
Delmarva entered the game with a 37-69 overall record and 14-26 in the league, while Fredericksburg held a 65-40 overall record and 19-20 in the league. After two scoreless innings, Jaiden Lo Re led off the third inning with a double. Jordan Sanchez followed with an RBI groundout, giving the Shorebirds a 1-0 lead.
Nationals Rally in Fourth Inning
Fredericksburg responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Coy James hit a two-run homer. Elian Soto tripled home Juan Cruz, and Dashyll Tejeda capped the rally with an RBI single for a 4-1 Nationals lead.
Fredericksburg Extends Lead
Jordan Williams added a solo home run in the sixth inning, pushing Fredericksburg’s lead to 5-1.
Strong Performance from Meckley
Alexander Meckley limited the Shorebirds to five base runners over 7.1 innings, striking out eight and retiring 15 consecutive batters. He earned the win and improved to 4-3 on the season.
Late Comeback Falls Short
After Meckley left the game, Delmarva mounted a late rally. Jordan Sanchez singled home two runs, cutting the deficit to 5-3. However, that was as close as the Shorebirds came. Holden deJong took the loss in his Single-A debut, and Leodarlyn Colon recorded the final five outs to earn his first save of the season.
Series Continues Saturday
The Shorebirds continued their series in Fredericksburg on Saturday, with Harrison Kreiling making his organizational debut against major-league rehabber DJ Herz. First pitch was at 6:35 p.m.
