The Delmarva Shorebirds lost 16-11 to the Hickory Crawdads on Aug. 2, 2026, in Salisbury, Maryland, after Hickory scored nine runs in the ninth inning. Delmarva carried an 11-7 lead into the final inning before the Crawdads rallied to take the game.
The loss left the Delmarva Shorebirds at 36-66 overall and 13-23 in the referenced split. The Hickory Crawdads entered the game at 60-39 overall and 26-9 in the same split.
Delmarva Shorebirds Build Early Lead
Miguel Rodriguez and Luis Almeyda opened the scoring with back-to-back two-out RBI singles in the bottom of the first inning. Their hits gave the Delmarva Shorebirds a 2-0 lead.
Stiven Martinez doubled the advantage to 4-0 in the second inning with a two-run single that scored Hector Campusano and Junior Aybar. Hickory answered with three runs in the third inning on an RBI single by Marco Argudin and a two-run single by Paulino Santana.
The Hickory Crawdads tied the game in the fourth inning on a bases-loaded walk with Sebastian Baquera at the plate. Delmarva reclaimed the lead in the bottom half when Martinez hit an RBI groundout that scored Campusano and put the Shorebirds ahead 5-4.
Hickory and Delmarva Trade Leads
Hickory moved in front in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Pablo Guerrero and a successful squeeze bunt by Luis Marquez. The Crawdads led 6-5 before a wild pitch allowed Andrew Tess to score and tie the game.
The Crawdads regained the lead in the sixth inning on an unearned run. Delmarva answered with an RBI triple from Junior Aybar, tying the score at seven.
The Shorebirds created separation in the seventh inning. Jemone Nuel hit an RBI single, and Jaiden Lo Re followed with a two-run single to give Delmarva a 10-7 lead.
Miguel Rodriguez added a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, extending the advantage to 11-7.
Hickory Crawdads Score Nine in Ninth Inning
The Hickory Crawdads opened the ninth inning with three consecutive walks. Deward Tovar then drove in two runs with a single, cutting the Shorebirds’ lead to 11-9.
With one out and the tying runs in scoring position, Sebastian Baquera grounded to third, but a throwing error by Elvin Garcia allowed the tying run to score. Marco Argudin then delivered a two-run triple to give Hickory the lead, and Pablo Guerrero followed with a three-run home run that extended the lead to 16-11.
The nine-run inning proved decisive. Delmarva did not score in the bottom of the ninth, allowing the Hickory Crawdads to complete the 16-11 victory.
