Delmarva Shorebirds baseball opened the club’s final homestand with a 5-4 loss to the Fredericksburg Nationals in 10 innings in Salisbury, Maryland. Delmarva built a 4-0 lead before Fredericksburg tied the game in the ninth inning and scored the go-ahead run in the 10th.
The Shorebirds entered the game with a 42-79 overall record and a 19-36 mark, while Fredericksburg stood at 71-49 overall and 25-29 in league play.
Delmarva Builds Early Lead
Eric Booth Jr. gave Delmarva an early advantage in the first inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Ty Head, who had opened the inning with a triple. Booth added another RBI with a groundout in the third inning, bringing home Félix Amparo. Following that, Stiven Martinez hit a 421-foot home run to center field, marking his second consecutive game with a homer and putting the Shorebirds ahead 4-0.
Fredericksburg Rallies Late
The Fredericksburg Nationals battled back in the fourth inning. Kevin Made hit a two-run double, and Avery Ortiz followed with an RBI double, cutting the deficit to 4-3. In the ninth inning, Dashyll Tejeda tied the game with a solo home run. Manuel Cabrera, who entered as a pinch-hitter, delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the 10th inning to give Fredericksburg the lead.
Delmarva loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the 10th but could not capitalize. Adam Boucher struck out the next two batters, and Jimmy Anderson lined out to center to end the game.
Next Game for the Shorebirds
Delmarva is set to continue the series Wednesday against the Fredericksburg Nationals. Harrison Kreiling will start for Delmarva against Fredericksburg’s Juan Reyes, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Zack Konstantinovsky earned the win in his professional debut, Javier González took the loss, and Adam Boucher recorded the save by preserving the final three outs of the 10th inning.
