Delfina Larripa Named CAA Offensive Player of the Week After Historic Hat Trick for Towson

Towson field hockey graduate forward Delfina Larripa has been named the Coastal Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week after producing one of the Tigers’ best individual offensive performances in nearly two decades.

The Buenos Aires, Argentina, native recorded her first career hat trick and added an assist in Towson’s 4-3 victory over Penn on Sunday at the TU Field Hockey Complex. Larripa accounted for seven points and played a direct role in all four Towson goals as the Tigers improved to 3-5.

The CAA officially announced Larripa as its Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Northeastern freshman goalkeeper Aiko Price earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Drexel freshman midfielder Cato Nackaerts was selected as the conference’s Rookie of the Week.

Larripa Delivers Breakout Performance

Larripa started both of Towson’s games during the weekend, including Friday’s 2-1 CAA-opening loss at Monmouth and Sunday’s nonconference victory over Penn. The graduate transfer did not score against Monmouth, but less than 48 hours later she delivered a performance that placed her in the Towson record book.

Towson entered Sunday’s game looking to respond after dropping four consecutive contests. The Tigers had scored only two total goals during that four-game losing streak, making an offensive breakthrough especially important as Towson began a three-game homestand.

Larripa provided exactly that.

She scored three of Towson’s four goals and assisted on the other, giving her seven points for the afternoon. Her three goals came on five shots, four of which were on goal, while the Tigers produced a season-high four goals as a team.

First Goal Gets Towson Started

After a scoreless opening quarter, Towson broke through early in the second.

Jillian LaBar created the opportunity by winning possession in Penn territory. After working with Olivia Thunnissen, LaBar sent a shot toward the cage and Larripa redirected the ball past the Penn goalkeeper to give Towson a 1-0 advantage.

Penn eventually answered to tie the game, but Larripa was not finished. With approximately two minutes remaining before halftime, Else Wismans carried the ball down the left side and into the circle before sending it across the goal area.

Ella Jefferson helped move the ball toward Larripa in the center of the circle. Larripa controlled it, turned and scored her second goal of the quarter, sending Towson into halftime with a 2-1 advantage.

Larripa Turns Playmaker

Penn applied significant pressure during the third quarter, but Towson goalkeeper Riley Redding kept the Tigers ahead with several saves.

Towson eventually earned a penalty corner with less than four minutes remaining in the period. Larripa initiated the play and found Stevie Schultz, who converted the opportunity for the first goal of her collegiate career.

The assist gave Larripa five points through three quarters and meant she had contributed to every Towson goal. More importantly, Schultz’s goal extended the Tigers’ advantage to 3-1 entering the final period.

Penn refused to go away. Reese Czajkowski converted a penalty stroke approximately three minutes into the fourth quarter, cutting Towson’s lead to 3-2 and setting up a tense finish.

Larripa Completes the Hat Trick

With Towson needing another goal, Larripa delivered the biggest play of the afternoon.

She took possession around the 25-yard line and attacked the Penn defense herself. Larripa carried the ball into the circle before driving a shot into the opposite corner of the cage, completing her first career hat trick and restoring Towson’s two-goal advantage at 4-2.

The goal ultimately proved decisive.

Penn scored again roughly 30 seconds later to make it 4-3, but Towson protected the one-goal advantage over the final minutes. Redding finished with a career-high 11 saves as the Tigers secured their third victory of the season.

Larripa’s third goal also went into the books as the game winner.

A Performance Towson Had Not Seen in Years

Larripa’s hat trick was Towson’s first since Sarah Hatfield scored three times against Saint Francis on Sept. 6, 2024. The seven-point performance was even rarer.

According to Towson Athletics, no Tiger had produced seven points in a game since Christina Boarman recorded three goals and an assist against Bryant on Oct. 24, 2008. That means nearly 18 years had passed since a Towson player produced a single-game offensive performance matching Larripa’s seven points.

Her performance also helped Towson accomplish something the program had not done against an Ivy League opponent in 15 years. Sunday’s victory was the Tigers’ first over an Ivy League program since Towson defeated Penn 2-1 on Sept. 9, 2011.

The four goals were also Towson’s highest total through its first eight games of the 2026 season. The Tigers previously scored three in their 3-1 victory over Georgetown on Sept. 4.

Larripa Moves to Top of Towson Scoring Chart

The breakout performance immediately changed the look of Towson’s individual scoring leaders.

Through eight games, Larripa leads the Tigers with eight points on three goals and two assists. Anouk Westerink ranks second with six points on two goals and two assists, while Ava McConnell has four points on two goals.

Larripa has produced her three goals on 13 shots and has put 10 attempts on goal. Her .769 shots-on-goal percentage is another indication of how dangerous she has been when creating scoring opportunities.

Her 10 shots on goal are tied with Westerink for the team lead despite Larripa having three fewer total attempts. Larripa also owns one of Towson’s three game-winning goals this season following her decisive third goal against Penn.

The numbers are particularly notable considering Larripa did not score during Towson’s first seven games. She entered Sunday with two assists before exploding for seven points in one afternoon.

Graduate Transfer Making an Impact

Larripa joined Towson as a graduate transfer and has quickly become an important part of the Tigers’ attack.

The Buenos Aires native has appeared in all eight games and started six. Through the Penn game, she had logged 344 minutes while becoming Towson’s leader in points and goals.

Her emergence comes at an important point for a Towson offense searching for greater consistency. The Tigers scored 10 goals through their first eight games, meaning Larripa has either scored or assisted on five of Towson’s 10 goals this season.

Towson has shown flashes of offensive potential but has also been shut out three times. The Tigers scored three against Georgetown and four against Penn, accounting for seven of their 10 goals through eight contests.

Larripa becoming another consistent scoring option alongside Westerink and McConnell could therefore make a significant difference as Towson moves deeper into conference play.

CAA Recognizes Larripa

Larripa became the fourth different player to receive CAA Offensive Player of the Week honors this season.

Fairfield’s Kylie Corcoran won the opening award on Aug. 31, followed by Drexel’s Fleur Hamers on Sept. 7 and Monmouth’s Milla Frye on Sept. 14. Larripa joined that group following her historic afternoon against Penn.

She is not the first Tiger to receive a weekly CAA honor this season. Towson’s Lydia Bennett was selected as the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 7.

Larripa’s award gives Towson recognition on both sides of the field during the opening month of the season.

Tigers Prepare for Fairfield

Towson will now attempt to turn Sunday’s victory into momentum as conference play resumes.

The Tigers are scheduled to host Fairfield on Friday at 3 p.m. at the TU Field Hockey Complex. Towson enters the matchup 3-5 overall and 0-1 in CAA play after dropping its conference opener 2-1 at Monmouth.

The Penn victory showed what Towson’s offense can look like when it capitalizes on its opportunities. The Tigers scored four goals despite Penn holding advantages of 22-12 in shots, 15-7 in shots on goal and 15-2 in penalty corners.

Redding’s 11 saves allowed Towson to withstand that pressure, while Larripa provided the finishing ability at the other end.

With another CAA matchup approaching, Towson will look for more of the same from its newly honored Offensive Player of the Week.

Delfina Larripa could hardly have picked a better time for her first goals in a Towson uniform.

The Tigers were coming off four consecutive losses and needed an offensive spark after scoring only twice during that stretch. Larripa responded by producing three goals and an assist in a single afternoon and directly contributing to every goal in a 4-3 victory.

The historical context makes the performance even more impressive. Towson had not produced a hat trick since 2024 and had not seen a player record seven points in one game since Christina Boarman did it in 2008.

Now the challenge is turning one extraordinary performance into sustained production. Larripa has moved to the top of Towson’s scoring chart, and if she can remain a consistent threat alongside Westerink, McConnell and the rest of the Tigers’ attack, Towson’s offense could look considerably different as the CAA schedule progresses.

For one afternoon against Penn, however, Larripa was the difference. Three goals, one assist, seven points and the game-winning goal made her selection as CAA Offensive Player of the Week an easy one to understand.
