D.C. United signed 16-year-old Academy midfielder Kamil Castillo as a Homegrown Player through 2030, with an option for June 2031, the club announced July 31, 2026. Castillo became the 24th Homegrown signing in D.C. United history.
Castillo joined the D.C. United Academy in January 2024 from Achilles FC. During the past season, he recorded six goals and seven assists in 33 total appearances across U-18, MLS NEXT Flex and Pro Pathway competition.
Kamil Castillo Earned D.C. United Homegrown Contract
Castillo is a right-footed central midfielder listed at 5-foot-11 and 145 pounds. He can also play in wider attacking roles.
Dr. Erkut Sogut, D.C. United’s managing director of soccer operations, said Castillo earned the opportunity through his performances across multiple Academy age groups.
“Kamil’s development through the Academy reflects the standard he has held himself to at every level. He has shown consistent quality across multiple age groups and has earned this opportunity through his performances. He possesses significant long-term potential, and our focus now is on providing the environment, guidance, and support that allows him to continue developing within the club.”
Kevin Flanagan, D.C. United’s director of academy and player development, said Castillo represents the DMV’s talent pool and pointed to his work rate, competitive character and creativity on the ball.
“Kamil has developed within our Academy system for many years, and he is a true representation of the DMV’s talent pool. His work rate, competitive character and his creative ability on the ball are what drive him. Those qualities, combined with his willingness to learn, put him in a strong position to succeed at the next level.”
Castillo Has Represented the Dominican Republic and United States
Castillo holds dual Dominican and American citizenship and has represented both countries at the youth international level. He debuted for the Dominican Republic U-17 National Team in February 2026 and recorded two goals and three assists in three appearances during 2026 Concacaf U-17 World Cup qualifying.
Castillo started for the Dominican Republic in its final group-stage match against the United States, a 1-1 draw in Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He also represented the Dominican Republic at the Concacaf U-15 Championship.
The midfielder has been called into United States youth national team camps at the U-14 and U-16 levels. He most recently appeared at a U-16 camp in Florida in March 2026.
D.C. United Academy Has Produced 24 Homegrown Players
Castillo’s signing makes him the 24th Homegrown signing in D.C. United history. He joins Jackson Hopkins, Gavin Turner, Oscar Avilez and Grant Leveille on the list of Homegrown Players on the current roster.
