D.C. United fall 3-1 to Philadelphia Union

D.C. United dropped their third straight game in a 3-1 defeat to the Philadelphia Union without Wayne Rooney, who earned a red card in their last game against the New York Red Bulls. Ola Kamara moved into the striker role while Luciano Acosta returned to the starting lineup.

The Union struck first in the fifth minute with a curl from Kai Wenger that was knocked in by Kacper Przybylko. Brenden Aaronson doubled the Union lead in the 16th minute and Ilsinho made it 3-0 in the 36th minute. 3-0 would be the score at the half.

D.C. United finally broke through in the 56th minute from Acosta for his first point (goal or assist) in nine games (June 1). That would be all United could muster in another frustrating night. They were outshot by the Union 15-7.

The Black and Red have won just three of their last 17 MLS games. Although they’re still five points above the playoff line, D.C. United’s recent slide dropped their record to 10-10-9 with 39 points.

This Saturday D.C. United will look to bounce back in Montreal against the Impact at 7:30 p.m. on FloFC.
