Coy James’ 456-foot home run leads the Fredericksburg Nationals past the Delmarva Shorebirds, 10-8, in the series opener Aug. 4, 2026, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. James also hit two doubles, including an RBI double, as Fredericksburg overcame an early three-run deficit.
The Delmarva Shorebirds took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Stiven Martinez hit a three-run home run. The Fredericksburg Nationals answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-3 advantage.
Fredericksburg Nationals Answer Early Deficit
Delmarva starting pitcher Esteban Mejia walked four consecutive batters to begin the game before leaving the contest. Jack Crowder entered from the bullpen, but Dashyll Tejeda followed with a two-RBI double and Luke Dickerson added a two-RBI single during Fredericksburg’s six-run rally.
Andrew Tess hit his first full-season home run in the fourth inning to bring the Delmarva Shorebirds within one run. Coy James responded with a 456-foot home run that extended the Fredericksburg Nationals’ lead to 8-5.
Fredericksburg Holds Off Delmarva
The Fredericksburg Nationals added two runs in the fifth inning. James hit an RBI double to score Cashel Duggar, and Manny Cabrera followed with an RBI single that brought home Christian Fagnant.
The Delmarva Shorebirds scored one run in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, but the Fredericksburg Nationals maintained their lead to secure the 10-8 victory. The Nationals have won three of their last four games.
The teams are scheduled to meet again Aug. 5 at Virginia Credit Union Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m., with RHP Landon Harmon scheduled to start for Fredericksburg and RHP Andrew Herbert scheduled to start for Delmarva.
