Corbin Martin Picked Up by Baltimore Orioles, Sent to AAA Norfolk Tides

Right-handed pitcher Corbin Martin was claimed off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers Monday afternoon, filling the open spot on the Baltimore Orioles’ 40-man roster.

Martin was a second-round pick in the 2017 draft, chosen by the Houston Astros that year. He made his Major League debut on May 12th, 2019 with the Astros, finishing the season with a 5.59 ERA after pitching in 19.1 innings. Overall, the 28-year old has only pitched in 57.2 major league innings, with an average ERA of 6.71.

In 2019, he underwent Tommy John surgery, and was out for the rest of that season as well as all of the shortened 2020 season. He came back in 2021 and 2022 to pitch for the Arizona Diamondbacks, posting a 10.69 and 4.84 ERA respectively. Martin missed the 2023 season due to Lat tendon surgery. On April 7th, 2024, Martin was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks, and picked up by the Brewers on April 14.

It will be interesting to see if Martin is able to overcome his struggles and injuries over the past few years to keep his spot on the Orioles roster. The Norfolk Tides have won 11 of their last 15 games over their 2-week road trip, and Martin is hopefully the addition needed to continue this streak.
