Coppin State Lands International Standout Armando Sigauque to Bolster Men’s Tennis Roster
BALTIMORE, Md. — Coppin State University continued to strengthen its men’s tennis program by announcing the signing of Armando Sigauque, a transfer from Barton Community College who will join the Eagles for the 2026-27 season. The addition gives Coppin an experienced international player with championship-level junior college experience and a decorated résumé from his native Mozambique.
Sigauque spent the past two seasons at Barton Community College in Kansas, where he helped the Cougars remain among the nation’s top NJCAA programs. During the 2026 season, Barton finished eighth at the NJCAA Men’s Tennis National Championships after advancing to the national runner-up finish during Sigauque’s freshman campaign. He earned an opening-round victory at No. 4 singles in the national tournament before advancing to the quarterfinals.
The talented Mozambican also enjoyed a strong postseason at the NJCAA Region 6 Championships, placing third in singles and fourth in doubles, demonstrating his versatility and ability to contribute in multiple lineup positions. Throughout the season, he competed regularly in both singles and doubles for one of the nation’s premier junior college programs.
Before beginning his collegiate career in the United States, Sigauque established himself as one of Mozambique’s top tennis players. He captured the 2023 Mozambique Men’s National Championship and has represented his country in the prestigious Davis Cup on three occasions. That international experience should provide valuable leadership and composure as he transitions into Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference competition.
The signing reflects head coach Ebonye Jones’ continued efforts to build Coppin State through experienced transfers capable of making an immediate impact. Adding a player with national tournament experience and international competition to the roster gives the Eagles additional depth and proven talent heading into the 2026-27 campaign.

International recruiting has become increasingly important across college tennis, and Sigauque appears to fit that trend perfectly.
