Chesapeake Baysox Weekly Recap (July 3–10, 2026)

The Chesapeake Baysox put together one of their best stretches of the 2026 season over the past week, winning six consecutive games before opening the Akron series with a loss. Outstanding pitching, timely hitting, and aggressive baserunning powered Chesapeake to a dominant run that provided optimism for the Orioles’ Double-A affiliate.

Series at Binghamton: Baysox Complete the Sweep

July 3 – Chesapeake 8, Binghamton 4

The Baysox offense erupted for eight runs as Aron Estrada blasted a go-ahead grand slam. Ethan Anderson continued his power surge with another home run, while Douglas Hodo III added an RBI double. Chesapeake’s lineup kept constant pressure on Binghamton’s pitching staff.

July 4 – Chesapeake 5, Binghamton 4

One day later, Chesapeake rallied again.

Trailing late, the Baysox scored in both the eighth and ninth innings before Thomas Sosa delivered the game-winning two-run single. Griff O’Ferrall and Estrada helped spark the comeback in another dramatic victory.

July 5 – Chesapeake 5, Binghamton 3

Sebastian Gongora turned in one of his strongest outings of the season, throwing six effective innings.

At the plate, Tavian Josenberger continued to impact games with both his bat and speed, while Frederick Bencosme collected multiple hits as Chesapeake won its fourth straight.

July 6 – Chesapeake 2, Binghamton 0

The pitching staff stole the show.

Luis De León struck out nine over 5.2 scoreless innings before the bullpen combined to finish the shutout. The Baysox scored only twice, but it was more than enough behind dominant pitching.

Series at Akron

July 8 – Chesapeake 2, Akron 1 (10 innings)

The winning streak reached six games.

Starter Joseph Dzierwa continued his outstanding season with five strong innings. In extra innings, Fernando Peguero scored the winning run on a wild pitch after Tavian Josenberger helped ignite the rally.

July 9 – Akron 5, Chesapeake 3

The streak finally ended.

Douglas Hodo III gave Chesapeake an early lead with a first-inning home run, but Akron answered with timely offense. Starter Evan Yates battled through 5.2 innings before taking the loss as the Baysox couldn’t complete another late comeback.

Players Who Stood Out

Joseph Dzierwa, LHP

Dzierwa continued pitching like one of the Orioles’ top prospects. His five scoreless innings against Akron lowered his ERA further and reinforced why he earned a selection to the 2026 Futures Game.

Luis De León, LHP

Nine strikeouts in less than six innings highlighted one of the best pitching performances of the week. De León attacked hitters with excellent command throughout the shutout victory.

Aron Estrada, INF

Estrada continued his hot July, highlighted by a go-ahead grand slam and several key hits. His offensive production has become one of the biggest reasons Chesapeake has climbed back into games recently.

Ethan Anderson, OF

Anderson kept showing why he remains one of the organization’s most intriguing power bats, adding another home run while continuing his productive season.

Tavian Josenberger, OF

Josenberger filled the stat sheet with clutch hits, smart baserunning, and strong defense. His extra-inning rally against Akron was another example of his ability to impact winning without necessarily hitting home runs.

Douglas Hodo III, OF

Hodo supplied extra-base power throughout the week, including an early homer against Akron and several key RBIs during the Binghamton sweep.

Weekly Takeaways

The Baysox’s biggest strength continues to be their pitching staff. Dzierwa, De León, Gongora, and the bullpen consistently gave the offense opportunities to win. Offensively, Anderson, Estrada, Hodo, and Josenberger have emerged as the catalysts, while Chesapeake has also excelled in close games thanks to aggressive baserunning and late-inning execution.

Although the winning streak ended in Akron, Chesapeake carried significant momentum into the remainder of the road trip. If the starting rotation continues performing at this level, the Baysox have the talent to stay competitive throughout the second half while continuing to develop several of Baltimore’s top prospects.
