The Chesapeake Baysox fell 4-3 to the Altoona Curve on Sunday night in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after Altoona scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning. The loss marked Chesapeake’s third walk-off defeat of 2026 and sealed a series split in Altoona.
Evan Yates delivered the deepest outing of his professional career for the Chesapeake Baysox. The right-handed starter pitched six and two-thirds innings, allowed two runs on four hits and two walks, and did not allow a run through the first five innings.
Evan Yates keeps Altoona scoreless through five
Yates worked through early threats to keep the game scoreless. In the fourth inning, Brandon Butterworth threw out a runner at the plate on a grounder to second, helping the Chesapeake Baysox escape another Altoona opportunity.
The Altoona Curve broke through in the sixth inning when Titus Dimitru delivered a two-run single. Yates opened the seventh by walking a batter, then generated a ground ball to shortstop Wehiwa Aloy, who started a double play that ended Yates’ outing. Yates did not strike out a batter.
Doug Hodo and Dom Keegan homer for Chesapeake
Chesapeake took the lead after Altoona left-hander Connor Oliver completed five and two-thirds scoreless innings. Doug Hodo hit a solo home run to left field for his eighth home run of the season.
Dom Keegan tied the game in the seventh inning with an opposite-field home run against Altoona reliever Emmanuel Chapman. The score remained 2-2 until the ninth inning.
Altoona scores twice in the ninth
Victor Figueroa reached on an error to begin the top of the ninth inning and stole second base. With two outs, Thomas Sosa hit a single that brought Figueroa home and gave the Chesapeake Baysox a 3-2 lead.
The Altoona Curve answered in the bottom half of the inning. After a leadoff single, Chesapeake right-hander Alex Pham entered the game, and Dimitru doubled home the tying run for his third RBI of the night.
Altoona then loaded the bases on a walk and a hit batter. With two outs, Jesus Castillo hit a single into shallow center field, just beyond the reach of a diving Sosa, to give the Altoona Curve a 4-3 walk-off victory.
Chesapeake Baysox open series against Harrisburg
The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, will return home Tuesday, August 4, to open a seven-game series against the Harrisburg Senators. The Harrisburg Senators are the Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. ET.
