Chandrè Boshoff Goes Undefeated as Towson Women’s Tennis Completes Strong Showing at Loyola’s McClure Invitational

BALTIMORE, Md. — Towson University senior Chandrè Boshoff delivered an outstanding performance at Loyola University’s McClure Invitational, finishing a perfect 3-0 across singles and doubles competition during the October 2-4 weekend. The Tigers competed against Mount St. Mary’s and host Loyola Maryland, finishing with six victories in 12 completed matches despite weather disruptions. Boshoff led the way with two convincing singles victories and an impressive doubles win alongside Kiersten Tambe. Towson’s scheduled competition against Morgan State was ultimately canceled because of rain, preventing the Tigers from completing their full tournament schedule.

The tournament provided another opportunity for head coach Jamie Peterson to evaluate his roster during the fall portion of the collegiate tennis season. Towson entered the weekend looking to build on its previous competition at the Towson Hidden Duals, where unfavorable weather had also limited the team’s opportunities. Several returning players demonstrated their potential against regional opponents, including multiple victories in doubles competition. Boshoff’s undefeated weekend stood out as the most impressive individual accomplishment, particularly considering the quality of her competition.

Boshoff Dominates Singles Competition

Boshoff began her weekend Friday against Mount St. Mary’s, where she faced Emma Kaden in the No. 6 singles position. The Towson senior controlled the match from beginning to end, securing a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory without surrendering a game. Her performance demonstrated exceptional consistency and allowed her to dictate the pace throughout the contest. The shutout victory also provided an encouraging start to what became an undefeated tournament for the South African native.

The following day, Boshoff returned to singles competition against Loyola Maryland’s Kenza Kharbouch in the No. 3 position. Once again, she established control early and maintained her advantage throughout the match, earning a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory. Although the competition presented a different challenge, Boshoff continued displaying the consistency and tactical execution that characterized her Friday performance. Her two singles victories represented an impressive continuation of her strong early-season form.

Boshoff’s success was not limited to this tournament, as she had also recorded a dominant victory during the previous weekend’s Towson Hidden Duals. In that competition, she defeated Morgan State’s Anissa Jean-Claude 6-0, 6-2 while competing at No. 4 singles. The combination of those results highlights her ability to produce convincing performances across different positions in the Tigers’ lineup. Having primarily competed at No. 3 singles last season, Boshoff brings valuable experience and versatility to Towson’s roster.

Boshoff and Tambe Continue Strong Doubles Partnership

Boshoff also contributed an important victory in doubles competition, partnering with junior Kiersten Tambe against Mount St. Mary’s. The Towson duo defeated Emma Perkins and Anna Berlini 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles position, earning a convincing victory against accomplished opponents. Perkins and Berlini received First Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference recognition following the 2025-26 season, making the result particularly encouraging for Towson. Boshoff and Tambe demonstrated why they have established themselves as one of the Tigers’ most reliable combinations.

The partnership between Boshoff and Tambe has developed over several seasons, with Boshoff competing in Towson’s top doubles position since arriving on campus in fall 2023. Both players earned Third Team All-Coastal Athletic Association honors following the 2025-26 campaign, recognizing their contributions against conference competition. Their familiarity with one another provides an important advantage, particularly in doubles matches where communication, positioning and coordination are essential. Another strong performance against quality competition suggests the partnership could remain a significant strength for Towson throughout the season.

Peterson Praises Boshoff’s Performance

Towson head coach Jamie Peterson was particularly impressed with Boshoff’s preparation, concentration and execution throughout the tournament. Her ability to produce decisive victories in both singles and doubles competition reflected the consistency Peterson wants from his experienced players. The Tigers have several returning contributors, but Boshoff’s leadership and experience make her an especially important member of the roster. Her performance at Loyola provided another example of the impact she can make as Towson prepares for more demanding competition.

“Chandrè Boshoff had a great weekend of tennis. She was very focused and played excellent tactical tennis. She displayed everything I want to see as a coach and is playing some of her best tennis right now.”

Peterson’s assessment is especially encouraging because Boshoff has already demonstrated the ability to compete successfully at multiple positions in the singles lineup. Her experience in doubles competition further increases her importance to a program looking to build on last season’s progress. Towson finished the 2025-26 campaign with a 10-10 record, marking the program’s first .500 season since 2018-19. With several experienced players returning, the Tigers have an opportunity to continue developing the consistency necessary to improve upon that finish.

Towson Sweeps Doubles Competition Against Mount St. Mary’s

While Boshoff received much of the attention, Towson’s overall doubles performance against Mount St. Mary’s was another major positive from the weekend. The Tigers captured all three doubles matches against the Mountaineers, demonstrating depth throughout their lineup. Junior Aubrey Carper and junior Chloe Courtnage earned a victory in the No. 2 doubles position, contributing to Towson’s impressive showing. Junior Gaia Montecchi and senior Ashira Murray completed the sweep with a dominant 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.

The results were encouraging for a Towson team that returns several established doubles combinations from last season. Carper and Courtnage finished the previous campaign with a 7-4 doubles record, winning five of their final six matches together. Montecchi and Murray also bring significant collegiate experience, giving Peterson several dependable options when assembling his lineup. Having multiple successful doubles partnerships could become an important advantage when Towson transitions into its spring dual-match schedule.

Montecchi Adds Singles Victory as Rain Interrupts Competition

Montecchi continued Towson’s success by earning a straight-set singles victory Friday against Mount St. Mary’s in the No. 2 position. The junior entered the season following an impressive 2025-26 campaign in which she compiled a 15-5 singles record and earned Third Team All-CAA recognition. She was particularly effective in the No. 2 position last season, finishing 13-5 while also recording victories at other spots in the lineup. Her continued success provides Towson with another experienced competitor capable of contributing against strong opponents.

Carper also appeared headed toward a singles victory before unfavorable weather interrupted her match Friday. Competing in the No. 4 position, she had won the opening set 7-5 and built a 5-2 advantage in the second set when rain stopped play. Although the match remained unfinished, Carper’s performance was another encouraging development for Towson. The weather continued affecting the tournament schedule, ultimately forcing the cancellation of the Tigers’ scheduled matchup against Morgan State.

Towson Builds Toward ITA Regional Competition

Towson’s six victories in 12 completed matches provided several positive developments despite the tournament’s weather-related interruptions. Boshoff’s undefeated performance highlighted the team’s individual talent, while the doubles sweep against Mount St. Mary’s demonstrated the depth available throughout the roster. Montecchi’s singles victory and Carper’s unfinished match also offered reasons for optimism as the fall season continues. Peterson will look to build on those performances while helping his players improve their consistency against increasingly competitive opponents.

The Tigers’ next scheduled competition will come at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals, hosted by Liberty University beginning October 15. Selected Towson players will participate in the event, providing an opportunity to compete against opponents from throughout the region. The tournament should offer a valuable measuring stick for a roster featuring several returning contributors with established collegiate experience. Towson will enter that competition hoping to carry forward the momentum generated by Boshoff and the team’s successful doubles performances in Baltimore.

MSB Take

Towson’s performance at Loyola’s McClure Invitational offered several encouraging signs, but Chandrè Boshoff’s undefeated weekend deserves the most attention. Winning three matches without a defeat is impressive, especially when those victories include a dominant singles shutout and a doubles win against accomplished opponents. Boshoff has clearly established herself as one of the Tigers’ most dependable players, and her experience should be invaluable as Towson continues developing its lineup. Her ability to contribute at multiple singles positions while maintaining a successful doubles partnership gives Peterson considerable flexibility moving forward.

The bigger takeaway for Towson is the depth demonstrated throughout the doubles lineup and the continued development of its returning players. Sweeping all three doubles matches against Mount St. Mary’s showed that the Tigers have more than one reliable partnership, which should become increasingly important during the spring season. Weather interruptions prevented Towson from fully evaluating its progress, but the performances from Boshoff, Montecchi, Carper and the doubles combinations provided plenty of positives. If the Tigers can build on these results and maintain their consistency, they have a realistic opportunity to improve upon last season’s .500 finish and become more competitive within the CAA.
