Capitals vs Golden Knights, a showdown in Vegas, where the Caps won the Stanley Cup back in 2018

The Washington Capitals, who are winners of two straight games, head to Vegas to face the Golden Knights. Vegas is doing really well this season, having amassed a 15-5-4 season so far. Going back to the 2020 season, Vegas has won the last 5 matchups between the two teams. Adin Hill who is the goaltender for the Golden Knights, who has been lights out for Vegas, is out due to an injury.

The Capitals have been led by the incorporation of the younger less experienced players, who are learning on the go. The inclusion of players like Connor McMichael and Hendrix LaPierre among others, have given the team a spark needed to play a faster, game. While incorporating the youth and speed, it has allowed some of the veteran players to be able to move around a bit more freely which opens up to more shots on goal.

The Capitals have been able to squeak out wins despite a lack of scoring. In the last two games, the Caps have scored a total of seven total goals which has equated to a 5-4 win over the Ducks and a 2-1 win over the Kings. Alex Ovechkin has not had a goal in the past five games. For one of the greatest goal scorers the NHL has had play the game, this is very unusual. One thing head coach Spencer Carbery is changing is Ovi’s center man. He is switching Kuznetsov and Dylan Strome so that Strome can center Ovi’s line. This is a much needed change to the lineup as Ovi is having a statistically horrendous season.
