Salisbury University women’s volleyball lost to the Swarthmore Garnet, 3-0, on Sept. 25 at Tarble Pavilion in Swarthmore, Pa., to open the Swarthmore Invitational. Swarthmore won the match by set scores of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-18.
Swarthmore Takes Command in Final Two Sets
The Garnet built a 19-14 lead in the opening set and reached set point at 24-20. Salisbury University scored the next three points to pull within one, but Swarthmore answered with the final point to take the set, 25-23.
Salisbury University led 14-11 in the second set before Swarthmore scored eight consecutive points to move ahead 19-14. The Garnet maintained its advantage and closed out the set, 25-19.
Swarthmore then used an 8-0 run to turn a 6-5 lead into a 14-5 advantage in the third set. Salisbury University cut the deficit to 15-12, but the Garnet responded with four straight points before finishing the match, 25-18.
Kiley McTaggart Posts Fourth Double-Double
Kiley McTaggart led Salisbury University with 11 kills and 11 digs. The performance gave her a fourth double-double this season and a third consecutive double-double.
Amanda Meschi added nine kills and nine digs, while Sophia Tapia recorded six kills and hit .313. Julie Altieri finished with 30 assists, four digs and one solo block, and Sophia Blaufuss contributed eight digs.
Salisbury University hit .139 as a team, compared with a .271 hitting percentage for Swarthmore.
Swarthmore Invitational Schedule
Salisbury University was scheduled to continue the Swarthmore Invitational on Sept. 26 against DeSales at 1:30 p.m. and Widener at 6:30 p.m.
