Capitals trip out west continues, showdown tonight against Edmonton
The Washington Capitals face the Edmonton Oilers on their five game west coast trip. They lost 3-0 to the Winnipeg Jets in the first of five. This is almost a must win for the Caps who’s playoff chances are slowly dwindling down to 0. The Capitals are hoping to get some players back from the injury list. This would help shore up the lineups because the team is missing the veteran presence of players like T.J. Oshie and Tom Wilson. Having veteran presence on the team would help with teaching some of the younger players defend elite players like Connor McDavid and Leon Drysital.
The offense has been a little lacking which has led to a decline in Ovechkin goals which puts his scoring record chasing in jeopardy. Hopefully, he can get back on a line with Strome and get set up for a few more goals this season.
The team has been better at not taking as many penalties and being able to keep five players on the ice during this past stretch of games. This has helped keep the playing field more even compared to earlier in the season when they would take four or five penalties.
