Capitals Recall Brown from Hershey, Re-assign Wellman to Hershey

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have recalled forward Chris Brown from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) and re-assigned forward Casey Wellman to Hershey, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Brown, 23, has registered 17 penalty minutes in seven games with Phoenix and Washington this season. The Capitals acquired Brown with Rostislav Klesla and a fourth-round draft pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft from Phoenix for Martin Erat and John Mitchell on March 4. Brown made his Capitals debut on March 6 at Boston. The 6’2”, 215-pound forward scored two goals in three games with Hershey this season and recorded 35 points (14 goals, 21 assists) and 68 penalty minutes in 51 games with the Portland Pirates (AHL). The Flower Mound, Texas, native has registered 84 points (45 goals, 39 assists) and 166 penalty minutes in 122 career AHL games with Portland and Hershey.
Wellman, 26, registered three points (two goals, one assist) in 13 games with the Capitals this season. The 6’0”, 183-pound forward made his Washington debut on Dec. 17 at Philadelphia and scored his first Capitals goal on Jan. 25 at Montreal. Wellman has recorded 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) and four penalty minutes in 54 career NHL games with Minnesota and Washington. The Brentwood, Calif., native played in 45 games with Hershey this season, collecting 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists) and 10 penalty minutes. Wellman ranks tied for second among Bears skater in goals this season and is tied for fifth on the team in points. He has tallied 164 points (68 goals, 96 assists) and 73 penalty minutes in 215 career AHL games with Houston, Connecticut, San Antonio and Hershey.
