Caleb Joseph earning his keep for his defense

Baltimore Orioles new starting catcher has been Caleb Joseph the long time Bowie Baysox catcher.  I have always liked Joseph as a prospect and thought he was always road blocked by Matt Wieters, not a bad guy to have block you.

With Wieters out Joseph has been starting most of the games and his defense has been outstanding.   The starting pitching has been on fire since Joseph has been catching and has been recording quality start after quality start.

Joseph has stopped a ton of wild pitches and has been great at throwing out base runners.  Even in today’s game Joseph threw out a good base stealer in Brett Gardner and made it look easy.

The offense for Joseph has been a struggle but the Orioles are living with that now.  Joseph is only batting .132 but does have seven walks and has shown a good batting eye.

I think Joseph is taking all his time and working on his catching.  The hitting will improve, it can not get much worse.
For now the Orioles have to be impressed at how well Joseph has played as a catcher.  Wieters was a Gold Glove catcher and Joseph is looking even better behind the plate.
