Baltimore Ravens Select Nate Wiggins With 30th Pick

The Baltimore Ravens selected Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins with the 30th overall selection on Thursday night. The 6’1″ 173 Ibs corner was a standout for the Tigers in his three seasons, and was hailed as one of the top two cornerbacks in the draft according to NFL scouts and experts.

Wiggins becomes the first cornerback the Ravens have selected in the first round since they took Marlon Humphrey in 2017. Now Wiggins and Humphrey’s will be suiting up together in whats looking to be one of the top secondaries in all the NFL. The Ravens will also have fellow cornerbacks Brandon Stephens and Arthur Maulet with Marcus Williams and Kyle Hamilton patrolling the back end in 2024.

Wiggins is from Atlanta, Georgia, and played his high school football at Westlake High School. Rated as a four-star recruit out of high school Wiggins chose Clemson, flipping from LSU prior to his signing day.

While at Clemson Wiggins played in 34 career games accumulating 60 total tackles, two forced fumbles, 24 pass deflections, three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Wiggins was also twice named First-Team All-ACC in 2022 and 2023.

At just 20-years old, Wiggins is a tall speedy corner that excels in man-to-man coverage, and ran a 40-yard dash time of 4.28 at the NFL combine, the best of all cornerbacks. Wiggins will need to put on some weight as many scouts believed he was too timid in run support and could struggle against stronger receivers when contesting balls.

But nonetheless, the Ravens appeared extremely high on Wiggins from the beginning wasting no time in sending is name in to get picked. Ravens GM Eric DeCosta said in his post draft press conference that the Ravens likely would have trade back if Wiggins was chosen ahead of the Ravens pick at number 30.

Draft day two begins tonight with rounds two and three as the Ravens will likely look to bolster their offensive line with one of their two picks. Many believed the Ravens would use their 30th pick on an offensive lineman, but after most of the top tackles were selected it looked like a reach to select on in the first round, and with arguably the best cornerback in the draft falling right into your lap it was hard to pass up.
