Allegany College of Maryland baseball coach Steve “Baz” Bazarnic received the George Stevenson/Nick Perlozzo Memorial Award, the Dapper Dan Club of Allegany County’s most prestigious honor, at the organization’s 77th Annual Dapper Dan Sports Awards Banquet on May 17, 2026.
The banquet took place at the Ali Ghan Shrine Club Ballroom in Allegany County. This marked Bazarnic’s third time receiving the Dapper Dan Club’s top award, following honors in 1991 and 2011.
A 48-season Allegany College of Maryland baseball career
Bazarnic dedicated 48 seasons to Allegany College of Maryland baseball and compiled 1,469 career victories with a .704 winning percentage. His victory total ranks fourth all-time in NJCAA history.
Under Bazarnic’s leadership, Allegany College of Maryland won nine district championships and made nine NJCAA World Series appearances. He also developed 54 Major League Baseball draft picks and six MLB players, including John Kruk, Stan Belinda and Steve Kline.
The MDJUCO Coach of the Year Award and the MDJUCO Steve Bazarnic Silver Slugger Award also bear his name, extending his influence across Maryland junior college baseball.
Bazarnic adds Dapper Dan honor to Hall of Fame recognition
Bazarnic was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026. Unable to attend the ceremony, longtime friend Paul Ackerman accepted the award on his behalf.
His other honors include the 2025 NJCAA Coaches Legacy Award, the 2023 Allegany College of Maryland Baseball Steve Bazarnic Field Dedication, the 2020 NJCAA Region XX Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, the 1996 NJCAA Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the 1991 Maryland Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
Adam Sterne, the Dapper Dan banquet chairman, said honoring Bazarnic was an honor and described him as an icon in the Allegany County community. Sterne also noted Bazarnic’s connection to Allegany College of Maryland reflected the school’s lasting importance in his coaching career.
