Towson Softball Announces New Coaching Staff Under Daniel Stockdale Ahead of 2027 Season

By Brian Hradsky Maryland Sports Blog | October 14, 2026

The Towson University softball program is entering a new era under head coach Daniel Stockdale, who has finalized his coaching staff ahead of the 2027 season. Felicity Munoz and Tim Wampler will serve as assistant coaches, while Meredith McAlister takes over as pitching coach. Brianna Perry will return to the program as director of player development and operations, completing a staff that combines Division I experience, player development expertise and deep connections to the Mid-Atlantic softball community.

Stockdale, who became Towson’s sixth head softball coach in June, inherits a program that spent more than three decades under longtime head coach Lisa Costello. Costello finished her Towson career with an 857-773-3 record, including 15 seasons with at least 30 victories and a program-record 42 wins in 2018. Stockdale now faces the challenge of maintaining the program’s established foundation while introducing his own coaching philosophy and developing the Tigers into a stronger Coastal Athletic Association contender.

Felicity Munoz Brings Delaware State Experience to Towson

Munoz follows Stockdale from Delaware State, where she spent five seasons as a player before transitioning into coaching. She served as a graduate assistant in 2025 and earned a promotion to assistant coach ahead of the 2026 season. During her coaching tenure, Munoz helped the Hornets improve their record from 14-28 in 2024 to 26-23 in 2025 before finishing 28-18 in 2026. Delaware State also finished second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular-season standings and third in the conference tournament during her final season.

Munoz brings experience in hitting instruction, defensive development, scouting and recruiting. As a player, she appeared in 122 games, including 90 starts, and recorded 43 hits, 27 stolen bases and a .960 career fielding percentage. Her familiarity with Stockdale’s coaching approach should help provide continuity as the Tigers transition to a new staff. That established working relationship could prove particularly valuable during offseason workouts and the early stages of the 2027 season.

Meredith McAlister Adds Maryland Connections and Pitching Expertise

McAlister brings an extensive coaching background to Towson, including experience at the high school, travel and collegiate levels. She spent the 2025 season as pitching coach at West Chester University, helping the Golden Rams finish with a 33-19 record. Under her guidance, standout pitcher Danielle Ciliberto recorded a 1.82 ERA across 165⅓ innings, demonstrating the type of pitching development McAlister hopes to bring to Towson. Before joining West Chester, McAlister spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Franklin & Marshall College.

During her tenure at Franklin & Marshall, McAlister helped pitcher Ainsley McClure lower her ERA from 4.34 to 2.89 while increasing her workload by 40 innings in her second season. Those improvements highlight McAlister’s experience developing pitchers capable of handling greater responsibilities. For Towson, improving pitching consistency and building depth in the circle will be important components of the program’s development. McAlister’s background provides the Tigers with a coach who has worked with pitchers across several competitive levels.

McAlister also has strong connections to Anne Arundel County softball, having previously coached at Severna Park High School from 2005 through 2023. She became the Falcons’ head coach in 2008 and helped lead the program to two state championships. In 2018, McAlister founded TNT Maryland API Softball, a youth fastpitch organization that later transitioned into Starz Gold API. Her extensive involvement in Maryland softball could provide Towson with additional recruiting connections throughout the region.

Tim Wampler Brings More Than Four Decades of Coaching Experience

Wampler joins Towson with more than 40 years of experience coaching high school and travel softball. His coaching background includes head coaching positions at Caravel Academy, Wilmington Christian and Red Lion Christian Academy. Each of those programs earned top-five state rankings during his respective tenures, reflecting his experience developing competitive teams. Wampler has also founded a youth softball organization that provides camps and clinics for travel softball players.

His experience working with younger athletes could become a valuable resource for Towson’s recruiting and player development efforts. Wampler has spent decades teaching fundamentals and helping athletes prepare for higher levels of competition. His presence gives Stockdale another experienced voice on the coaching staff, particularly when evaluating prospects and developing players throughout the season. Combined with Munoz’s recent Division I coaching experience, Wampler’s background creates a balance between established coaching methods and newer approaches.

Brianna Perry Returns in Expanded Role

Perry rounds out the coaching staff as director of player development and operations after spending the previous season with the Tigers. Her return provides some continuity during a period of significant change within the program. Perry will serve in a position focused on player development and team operations, supporting the program as it prepares for Stockdale’s first season. Retaining someone already familiar with Towson’s softball environment should help the Tigers navigate the transition.

Stockdale Looks to Build on Success at Delaware State

Stockdale arrives at Towson following five seasons leading Delaware State, where he steadily improved the Hornets’ performance. His former program won 28 games in 2026, produced a 16-game winning streak and finished second in the MEAC regular-season standings. Those accomplishments helped establish Stockdale as a coach capable of developing a competitive program. His decision to bring Munoz with him also provides an established coaching partnership as Towson prepares for its next chapter.

The Tigers compete in a challenging Coastal Athletic Association, where consistent pitching, defensive execution and timely hitting can determine postseason positioning. Stockdale’s staff features coaches with experience in all three areas, along with connections to regional recruiting pipelines. McAlister’s Maryland background and Wampler’s extensive youth softball experience could be particularly useful as Towson looks to strengthen its recruiting presence. The ultimate measure of the new staff’s success will come when the Tigers return to competition in 2027.

MSB Take

Towson made an interesting decision by assembling a coaching staff that combines familiar faces with experienced softball instructors from throughout the region. Bringing Munoz from Delaware State makes sense because she already understands Stockdale’s expectations and helped him build a winning program. However, McAlister might be the most intriguing addition because of her successful pitching development background and longstanding connections to Maryland softball. Her experience at Severna Park also gives Towson someone who understands the talent available in its own backyard.

The Tigers have an opportunity to build something under Stockdale, but the transition from Costello’s lengthy tenure will require patience and consistent improvement. Towson needs to develop its pitching staff, recruit effectively and establish an identity capable of competing in the CAA. This coaching group appears well positioned to address those priorities, especially with its combination of collegiate experience and grassroots softball connections. The 2027 season will provide the first meaningful indication of whether Stockdale’s approach can move the program forward.
