Melvin Ahoueya made nine saves in 90 minutes, but the Goucher College men’s soccer team lost 4-0 to the No. 19-ranked Catholic University Cardinals Wednesday evening in Washington, D.C.
Catholic University scored once in the first half, twice within the first eight minutes after halftime and again in the 81st minute. The Cardinals finished with a 26-1 advantage in shots and led 10-1 in corner kicks.
Catholic University Controls First Half
The Cardinals opened the match with four shots and two corner kicks, calling Ahoueya into action. Tim Bonilla recorded Goucher College’s only shot at the 17:19 mark, but Catholic University regained possession and continued its offensive pressure.
Catholic University opened the scoring at 34:50. Ahoueya made two more saves before halftime, sending the Cardinals into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Cardinals Add Three Second-Half Goals
Catholic University scored twice within the first eight minutes of the second half to extend its lead to 3-0, adding another goal in the 81st minute to complete the 4-0 victory.
Goucher College men’s soccer next plays at Juniata on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m. The team returns to Beldon Field on Wednesday, Oct. 14, against Lycoming, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
