Mount St. Mary’s University men’s soccer defeated Marist 4-3 on Sept. 19, 2026, in Poughkeepsie, New York, to open Metro Conference play with a victory. Abou Cherif scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute, assisted by Oliver Jorgensen.
The win improved Mount St. Mary’s to 1-2-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Both teams recorded seven shots on goal.
Marist struck first when Caio Cavaletti scored in the 26th minute. Lincoln Bauer answered in the 41st minute with the first goal of his career, assisted by Noah Kaiser. Daniel Morales Silva then gave Mount St. Mary’s its first lead on a goal assisted by Bauer, who assisted on both of Morales Silva’s two goals.
Marist regained the lead with two goals in the second half. Mani Diop scored in the 72nd minute before Chris Verheul added a goal in the 76th minute. Morales Silva equalized again after Marist goalkeeper Gavin Mitlitski saved a Cherif shot and Morales Silva scored on the rebound.
Cherif then collected Jorgensen’s pass and delivered the winning goal from the right side of the box in the 83rd minute. The goal was Cherif’s first of the season, while Morales Silva leads Mount St. Mary’s with three goals on the season.

Mount St. Mary’s is scheduled to host Iona on Sept. 26, 2026, with kickoff at 4 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium in the PNC Sports Complex.
