WASHINGTON, D.C. — Coppin State University women’s volleyball swept Howard, 3-0, in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener Thursday at Burr Gymnasium. The Eagles won 25-16, 25-17 and 25-20 to secure their eighth consecutive victory.
Coppin State improved to 9-5 overall and 1-0 in MEAC play, while Howard fell to 1-11 overall and 0-1. The Eagles hit .306 as a team and held Howard to a .094 hitting percentage.
Coppin State Controls the Net
Coppin State recorded 14 blocks compared with four for Howard. Rori Gray led the Eagles with six blocks, while Cherisse Atliano and Deviana Walker each added two.
Atliano led Coppin State with 10 kills. Walker added nine kills while hitting .500, and Kayden Cupid and Ivanna Luna each contributed six kills; Cupid also hit .500.
Eva Rovello Leads Coppin State Offense
Eva Rovello recorded a match-high 31 assists, four service aces, two kills and five digs. Her four aces led the Eagles, who finished with seven service aces overall.
Coco Figueroa paced Coppin State with 13 digs. The Eagles completed the conference opener without dropping a set.
Next Match
Coppin State is scheduled to return to action Sunday, Sept. 27, at Norfolk State. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. on the MEAC Network.
