Hood College Women’s Volleyball Team Falls 3-2 to Neumann University in MAC Commonwealth Opener

The Hood College women’s volleyball team opened Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play with a five-set loss to Neumann University on September 15 in Frederick, Maryland. Neumann University won 19-25, 11-25, 25-19, 25-20 and 15-11 to take the match 3-2.

Neumann University Completes Five-Set Comeback

Hood College won the first two sets, including a 25-19 opening-set victory and a 25-11 result in the second. Neumann University answered with 25-19 and 25-20 wins to force a deciding fifth set.

Hood College held an 8-6 advantage early in the final set before Neumann University scored five consecutive points to take an 11-8 lead. Hood cut the deficit to 13-11, but Neumann University closed the match with the final two points for a 15-11 victory.

Hood College Women’s Volleyball Leaders

Cam Madden and Isabelle Garrett led Hood College with 11 kills each. Maria Ricketts recorded 26 assists and six service aces, while Janiyah Thornton finished with five blocks.

Kendall Massey added 12 digs for Hood College. The team held advantages over Neumann University in aces, 15-7, and digs, 57-52.

Melissa Eddy and Julia Solomon each had 11 kills for Neumann University, and Emma Jovas recorded 23 assists. Neumann improved to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Hood College fell to 0-10 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Hood College’s Next Match

Hood College will travel to St. Mary’s City on September 19 for a tri-match. The team is scheduled to face St. Mary’s College of Maryland at 11 a.m. and Randolph College at 1 p.m.

Hood College controlled the opening two sets, but Neumann University responded with three consecutive victories to win the conference opener. Hood’s advantages in aces and digs did not prevent the five-set defeat.
