Towson’s Lisa Magill Named to Sweden’s Women’s Lacrosse Sixes National Team
Towson University midfielder Lisa Magill will take her game to the international stage this fall after earning a spot on Sweden’s Women’s Lacrosse Sixes National Team. Magill is one of 12 players selected to represent Sweden at the European Sixes Lacrosse Championships in Salou, Spain, from Nov. 2-9. The tournament carries even more importance because it will serve as a qualifier for the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships.
The opportunity gives Magill a chance to represent Sweden while continuing to develop within one of the fastest-growing formats in international lacrosse. Sixes features fewer players, a smaller field and a faster pace than the traditional field game, placing a premium on versatility, conditioning and transition play. Those qualities make Magill, a midfielder for the Tigers, a natural fit as she continues to build her college career at Towson.
Magill said in Towson’s announcement that representing Sweden carries special meaning for her and that she is proud to have the opportunity to help grow the sport in the country. Her connection with the Swedish national program actually began years before she arrived at Towson. Magill attended the 2022 World Lacrosse Championship at Towson University, watched Sweden play Spain and made connections with members of the Swedish program during that event.
That relationship eventually came full circle after Magill committed to Towson. She traveled back to Sweden during the summer of 2026, competed in the Swedish National Championships and participated in national-team tryouts. Her performance was enough to earn one of only 12 roster spots for the European Sixes Lacrosse Championship, putting her among a select group that will carry Sweden’s hopes in Spain.
Magill recently completed her freshman season with Towson and is listed as a 5-foot-2 midfielder from Carlsbad, California. She joined the Tigers as part of head coach Kristen Carr’s seven-player freshman class and is majoring in pre-business administration. Before arriving at Towson, Magill starred at Carlsbad High School and Alliance National, where she developed into one of the more accomplished players in her area.
Her high school résumé included four Scholar Athlete of the Year honors, two First Team All-League selections and 2024 Player of the Year recognition. That combination of athletic production and academic achievement helped make Magill an intriguing addition to Towson’s program. Now, only a short time into her college career, she has already added international selection to her list of accomplishments.
The Swedish roster includes Zadie Besev, Emma Fransson, Sofie Gumaelius, Julia Gutke, Kjälla Jackson, Celine Lauritzen, Magill, Stella Mattsson, Anna McCallion, Ida Modin, Kiera Runske and Lucy Shafer. Sweden announced the 12-player group in late August ahead of its November trip to Spain. Additional information on Sweden’s schedule and matchups is expected to be released closer to the championship.
Magill’s selection also gives Towson another connection to high-level lacrosse beyond the college season. The Tigers have continued to build a program with players and coaches who have experience at prominent levels of the sport, including assistant coach Kristin O’Neill, who was selected by the Boston Guard in the Women’s Lacrosse League Supplemental Draft earlier this year. Experiences like Magill’s international opportunity can provide additional development while also bringing recognition to Towson’s program.
For Magill, the November tournament could represent just the beginning of a larger international journey. Sweden will be competing for qualification to the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships, giving every game in Salou added significance. A strong tournament would not only help Sweden advance but also give Magill valuable experience against players and styles from throughout Europe.

This is a tremendous opportunity for Lisa Magill, especially considering how early she is in her Towson career. Making a 12-player national-team roster immediately after her freshman season speaks to her potential and gives her a chance to gain experience that most college players never receive. Competing internationally should only accelerate her development when she returns to Towson.
It is also another positive development for Towson women’s lacrosse. Having a player represent a national team adds visibility to the program and shows that the Tigers are bringing in athletes capable of competing beyond the college level. Magill’s story is especially interesting because her connection to Sweden began at a World Lacrosse event hosted at Towson and has now led to her representing the country four years later.
