Washington College men’s soccer played Widener to a 1-1 tie Friday, Sept. 4, at Elizabeth J. Hirschmann Stadium at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium in Chester, Pennsylvania. The non-conference result moved Washington College to 0-0-2 on the season, while Widener moved to 0-1-1.
Simone Perin put Washington College ahead at the 15:41 mark by finishing a rebound of a Samuel Knauf shot. Knauf recorded his first career assist and point on the goal.
Washington College Takes First-Half Lead
Washington College carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime after its defense blocked Widener’s final shot attempt of the opening half with 2:05 remaining. Hannes Budde made two saves and allowed no goals in 45 minutes.
Widener tied the match in the 49th minute when Will Cole scored on a shot assisted by Michael Panno. Calvin Field played the second half, making no saves and allowing one goal in 45 minutes.
Widener Preserves Tie Late
Washington College recorded nine shots and three corner kicks. Both teams put three shots on goal.
Kaua de Oliveira took Washington College’s final shot with 4:48 remaining, but the Widener goalkeeper made the save. Washington College earned a free kick in the final minute, but Widener cleared it to preserve the tie.

Washington College men’s soccer remains unbeaten through two matches after Perin’s first-half goal and Knauf’s first career point helped produce the tie. The teams finished even in shots on goal, 3-3.
Washington College was scheduled to visit Neumann Saturday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. in a non-conference game.
