Hogan Institute Announces Scholarship Support and Speaker Series
The Rollins-Luetkemeyer Foundation committed $1.5 million to Washington College’s Hogan Institute. The related matching challenge is expected to bring the total scholarship support generated by the effort to $4.5 million for middle-income students.
The Hogan Institute also announced initial programming through a Distinguished Speakers Series. The series will feature former Delmarva governors discussing bipartisan efforts to manage the environment.
Students Pursue Research and Internship Projects
Imogene Nuss ’28 spent the summer as a Toll Research Fellow while preparing for professor Emerald Andrews’ Math of Quilting course. Nuss studied foundation paper pieceable quilts.
Noah Gibson ’27 and professor Quin H. Hu spent the summer researching DREADDs in computational chemistry through the John S. Toll Research program. Cecilia Johnston ’27, a business major, gained database management experience at a museum focused on the history of American industry through an Explore America internship.
Faculty, Convocation and Business School Updates
The first season of Washington College’s Washington Insider Series will feature college authors who contributed to a 2026 book about teaching fundamental information literacy skills for lifelong civic engagement. The series will present the authors through video interviews.
Washington College’s Fall 2026 Convocation officially opened the academic year and included a keynote from the year’s distinguished teaching award winner. The event also welcomed the Class of 2030 and honored alumni.
Caddie Putnam Rankin, an associate professor of business management, was appointed inaugural dean of the Warehime School of Business. Rankin helped design the school’s mission, composition and curriculum during the previous two years.
Stephany Slaughter ’94, an Emmy Award-winning producer and college professor, directed a documentary about Michigan agriculture that has received accolades at film festivals.
Washington College Continues School-District Partnerships
Washington College signed memorandums of understanding with Kent County and Queen Anne’s County school districts. The agreements will expand opportunities for current teachers, teachers in training and public school students.
