Mzwandile Honde helped the Goucher College men’s soccer team rally past Cairn University, 3-2, in the season opener September 1, 2026, at Beldon Field in Baltimore, Maryland. The victory moved Goucher College to 1-0-0, while Cairn University fell to 0-1-0.
Cairn University took a 1-0 lead through Elijah Ejiofor in the opening minute. Goucher College answered when Honde scored the equalizer with 11:56 remaining in the first half, finishing an assist from Joel Lukoo. The teams entered halftime tied 1-1.
Goucher College Men’s Soccer Takes Control
Goucher College took its first lead at 55:34 when Jason Green-Adams scored his first collegiate goal on another assist from Lukoo. Abobeleh Nkemawung then extended the advantage to 3-1, scoring on a pass from Anthony Ketelsen.
Zane Wheeler scored for Cairn University at 76:18 to cut the deficit to 3-2. Goucher College held on through the closing minutes to secure the season-opening victory. Lukoo finished with two assists, and five different Goucher players recorded at least one point, including the three goal scorers.
Goucher College outshot Cairn University 14-8 and held an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks. Goucher recorded seven shots on goal to Cairn’s two, while Cairn goalkeeper Xander Jakeway made three saves compared with none for Goucher. Dino Gesamondo made his first collegiate start and played all 90 minutes in goal for Goucher.
Goucher College Men’s Soccer Hosts Penn State Brandywine
Goucher College will return to Beldon Field Thursday, September 3, to host Penn State Brandywine at 7 p.m. The game will be the team’s second scheduled contest of the season.
