Anthony Eyanson Pitches Seven Innings as Chesapeake Baysox Lose 2-0 to Richmond Flying Squirrels

Anthony Eyanson pitched seven innings as the Chesapeake Baysox lost 2-0 to the Richmond Flying Squirrels in Bowie on Aug. 20, 2026. The right-hander allowed one run on five hits, issued no walks and struck out eight while recording the first quality start of his career.

Eyanson, the Baltimore Orioles No. 2 prospect and No. 49 overall prospect according to MLB.com, faced the minimum across his first four innings. His career-high outing lowered his Double-A ERA to 1.93. Joseph Dzierwa had the second-lowest Eastern League ERA among pitchers with at least 65 innings, at 1.89 in 76.1 innings.

Richmond Scores in the Sixth Inning

The game followed an 86-minute rain delay and developed into a pitching duel between Eyanson and Richmond right-hander Yunior Marte. Marte earned the win after pitching six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.

The Richmond Flying Squirrels scored in the sixth inning after back-to-back singles and a throwing error put two runners in scoring position. Aron Estrada helped preserve the shutout by throwing home on a fielders choice for the second out, but Gavin Kilen followed with an RBI single to give Richmond a 1-0 lead.

Kilen tried to stretch the hit into a double, but Sosa threw him out at second. Left-hander Micah Ashman relieved Eyanson in the eighth inning, when Richmond added another run. Jean Carlos SEDo drew a two-out walk and scored two batters later on a Dayson Croes RBI single.

Baysox Create Late Threat

Chesapeake created a scoring opportunity in the eighth inning when Colin Tuft and Estrada delivered back-to-back singles. A strikeout and a flyout stranded the potential tying runs.

Anderson De Los Santos opened the bottom of the ninth with a single, but Richmond right-hander Marques Johnson retired three consecutive Chesapeake batters to earn a five-out save. Brock Moore also pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Chesapeake and struck out two.

The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, fell to 26-21 and 55-60. The Richmond Flying Squirrels are the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

Next Game

The Chesapeake Baysox were scheduled to continue their six-game series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels Friday at Prince Georges Stadium. First pitch was scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Chesapeake was scheduled to start Pat Reilly, listed at 0-2 with a 5.50 ERA, against Richmond starter Miguel Mendez, listed at 2-2 with a 4.93 ERA.

Maryland Sports Blog Take

Eyanson delivered a career-high seven innings with eight strikeouts and no walks, but the Chesapeake Baysox could not generate enough offense in the 2-0 loss. His first career quality start and 1.93 Double-A ERA provided the clearest positive for Chesapeake in a game decided by Richmonds two run-scoring hits.
