Fredericksburg Nationals Rally Falls Short in 9-5 Loss to Kannapolis Cannon Ballers

The Fredericksburg Nationals rally fell short in a 9-5 loss to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers after Kannapolis scored six unanswered runs in the middle innings. Fredericksburg scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Kannapolis answered with two runs in the seventh.

Kannapolis Turns Early Deficit Into Six-Run Lead

Hunter Hines gave the Fredericksburg Nationals their first run with an RBI double. Hines, last year’s 10th-round pick, has 35 RBIs through his first 45 Single-A games.

Juan Reyes pitched three scoreless innings before Clarence Martina entered the game. Martina allowed six runs in 1.1 innings, along with five walks and three hits.

Kannapolis scored six unanswered runs to take a 6-1 lead. Fredericksburg responded in the sixth by capitalizing on four walks and scoring four runs, cutting the deficit to two before the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers restored a four-run advantage in the seventh.

Fredericksburg Nationals Prepare for Next Game

The loss put the Fredericksburg Nationals behind the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, 2-1, in the series. Fredericksburg will face Kannapolis in the next game of the series.

Right-hander RJ Sales is scheduled to start for Fredericksburg against right-hander Fabian Ysalla. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Virginia Credit Union Stadium on the final “Frogs Friday” of the year.
