The Fredericksburg Nationals lost 13-11 to the Fayetteville Woodpeckers on Aug. 14, 2026, in Fayetteville, N.C., in the longest baseball game of the season. The game lasted three hours and 49 minutes, and Fredericksburg used six pitchers and a position player on the mound.
The loss was the Fredericksburg Nationals’ fourth in a row and tied the team’s longest losing streak of the season. Fredericksburg also lost the first four games of a series for the first time this season.
Fredericksburg Nationals Strike First
Coy James and Cristhian Vaquero opened the first inning with singles before executing a double steal to move into scoring position. Juan Cruz followed with a two-run single that gave the Fredericksburg Nationals a 2-0 lead.
Juan Reyes, a southpaw making his first Single-A start, worked through trouble in the first two innings. The Fayetteville Woodpeckers tied the game in the third inning when Ben Tryon and Carlos Cauro hit RBI singles.
Fayetteville moved ahead in the fourth inning. Logan Hughes hit a two-run double to put the Woodpeckers in front, 4-2, and Kevin Alvarez followed with an RBI single that scored Hughes and extended the lead to 5-2.
Six-Run Sixth Gives Fredericksburg the Lead
The Fredericksburg Nationals scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning to take an 8-6 lead. Ryan Forcucci walked the first three batters of the inning, and the Nationals tied the game with one hit before Cristhian Vaquero delivered a two-run single to cap the rally.
The Fayetteville Woodpeckers answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 10-8 lead.
Fayetteville Woodpeckers Pull Away Late
The Fredericksburg Nationals rallied again in the eighth inning. Cristhian Vaquero hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to one run, and Juan Cruz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game.
Fayetteville responded with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 13-10 lead. Fredericksburg scored once and loaded the bases in the ninth inning, but the Nationals could not bring the tying run across with a position player on the mound.
Fredericksburg Nationals Set for Next Game
The Fredericksburg Nationals are scheduled to face the Fayetteville Woodpeckers again at Segra Stadium. Right-handed pitcher RJ Sales is scheduled to start for Fredericksburg against Fayetteville right-handed pitcher Adrian Ardines.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
