Frostburg State University Football was selected as the 2026 Mountain East Conference preseason favorite in a vote of league head coaches announced Aug. 14, 2026, in Fairmont, W. Va. Frostburg State University enters the season as the reigning Mountain East Conference co-champion after finishing 11-3 in 2025.
Frostburg State advanced to the NCAA Division II Football Championship quarterfinals last season, tying program records for wins and its farthest run in a national tournament. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team in the preseason poll.
Frostburg State University Football Builds on 2025 Success
Frostburg State University finished No. 14 in the American Football Coaches Association year-end poll and No. 20 in the D2football.com year-end poll. The 11 victories tied a Frostburg State program record, while the quarterfinal appearance matched the program record for its deepest national tournament run.
Frostburg State University led the Mountain East Conference in scoring defense in 2025, allowing 21.3 points per game. The Frostburg State University Bobcats also led the conference with 27 sacks and 15 interceptions.
2026 Mountain East Conference Football Preseason Poll
The Mountain East Conference preseason poll, voted on by conference head coaches who were not allowed to vote for their own teams, ranked Frostburg State as the favorite with 64 points and eight first-place votes. Charleston was second with 57 points and one first-place vote, followed by Fairmont State (41 points), West Virginia State (39), Wheeling (36), Glenville State (32), tied seventh were Concord and West Liberty (22 points each), and West Virginia Wesleyan at ninth (11 points).

Frostburg State Football will open the 2026 season at Shepherd on Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. The conference schedule begins at West Liberty on Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.

Frostburg State Football enters 2026 with an 11-3 season, a Mountain East Conference co-championship and a quarterfinal appearance in the NCAA Division II Football Championship.
